I can see Microsoft doing something like this, and frankly it would not bother me too terribly damn much. What I am afraid of however is that Microsoft is going to go too far with their new casual fetish. Already we have scary rumors going about when it comes to the fall update. There is talk of the system being poisoned to bring it in line with the Wii.
The most depressing rumor I have heard thus far is mandatory Avatars. Players will have a mandatory requirement to create an Avatar before they can even log onto live. I really despise the Avatars for their childish appearance, and more to the point I do not agree with shallow conformity. Being in an online community should be about self expression not replicating real life appearance. Which says nothing about me as a person.
Rumors like these are a part of the reason why I will not be extending my Live subscription this September, and more to the point why my console is going to be disconnected from the internet a week before the fall update is even released. Anyway other rumors are too heinous to imagine. Log in streaming commercials. Mandatory console password locking. Automated play dating, and reminder notifications.
I am just going to lock my console away until I know what is coming is safe, and isn't going to relieve me of my freedoms. So if I am taking these rumors serious enough I should take this rumor serious enough as well.
