Forums - Gaming - Handheld RPGs: Reccomend me some games

I may buy myself a handheld for RPGs this year for the long flights I have to take to West coast.

So I need some reccomendations...And this thread may get ugly........

Which system has the better RPGs? It may be a difficult question to ask, and I can assume the DS is the leader, thanks to the huge support it gets. But I would like a few reccomendations of mostly JRPGs (remakes or not), for both systems...What RPGs have I missed since handhelds seem to be in the golden age of RPG gaming?

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Around the Network

Lunar Knights, (if they count)the two Castlevania games(Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and Portrait of Ruin), and Mario & Luigi Partners in Time

I hear the DS has a longer battery life?

Anyway definately get Pokemon, and Ace Attorney 1-4 as it'll make your boss Naznatips happy.

Tease.

Final fantasy VII Crisis Core was fun. Lunar Knights and the Final fantasy IV remake were also good.

How are Ace Attorney games even RPGs?

What is the actual battery life on a DS?

You play a Role as an Ace Attorney called Pheonix Wright? :P

Its more about keeping Naznatips happy as hes your boss, and he'd insist on you getting that game.

DS Lite = up to 10 hours on a 1 hour charge. (Depending on game/backlight)

PSP = 4-6 hours.

The actual bettery life on the DS lite is 12ish hours, 16 if you turn down the backlight. The PSP runs about 4 to 8 depending. Both consoles can use backup batteries.

The best RPGs on the DS are The World Ends With You, Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time, and Final Fantasy IV DS. FFTacticsA A-2, Pokemon games, Etrian Odyssey 1/2, and Crystal Chronicles are also good, but not AAA imo. Before the end of the year, Chrono Trigger DS, and Disgaea DS will be released.

The DS is also BC, in which case you might wanna try out FFVI Advance, The Fire Emblem Games, or Golden Sun, amongst many other great rpgs.

As for RPGs, the PSP is only mildly behind atm, tbh, however, the console has a very poor future lineup of RPGs compared to the DS, and in about 5 months, it will be vastly behind. There is no arguing that point.

The DS is the current leader in great games imo, but at the moment that strength comes more from game selection than RPG lineup, as most of the larger RPGs we know about aren't released yet, but are only planned.

Suikoden, Tales of Hearts, Chrono Trigger, Dragonquest IX, Dragonquest Remakes, Kingdom Hearts, Disgaea, Fire Emblem DS, Sonic Chronicles, Master of the Monsters Lair, Rune Factory, Luminious Arc 2, Ash, Sigma Harmonics, Soma Bringer, and Valkyrie Profile to name a few. There is no question which console is the inevitable undisputed RPG king, and which has more rpg potential.

The PSP has an excellent action RPG, Final Fantasy Core Crysis, already out, but its future RPG lineup is questionable, and The World Ends With You, imo, is the better game, so it's up to the individual user to decide, as always.

However, let me say this, I believe that RPG fans that buy a PSP now instead of a DS, will regret that decision soon, and I've given my reasons why I believe this.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

DS obviously.

Also, the Ace Attorney games share a lot in common with an anime based JRPG, you'd be surprised, and if someone did classify them in the RPG genre, I'd have no choice but to rank them near the very top, just shy of the best Final Fantasy games. They are also very long, you'd be surprised, and are, imo, the best travel games to play, they are an anime book on tape, but they happen to be a fantastic anime with amazing character development. I wouldn't wave them off so easily if I had never played them.

Another game along that line is Hotel Dusk. If you like noir, like well...Sam Spade 1920's detective pulp fiction, then you'll fall in love with Hotel Dusk, which is without a doubt the most adult game possibly ever released for any console.
