I believe the 360 is still pretty much sold out in Japan.  Sad considering MS had an opportunity to extend that sales burst to longer than a week had they provided enough stock.

 I don't think the 360 would have beat the PS3 even if it was fully stocked, Most people who bought a 360 for vesperia bought it on the first day/week.

Another thread reported that all 10000 360/ToV bundles sold out the first week, and displayed photos where many Japanese shops had out-of-stock signs.

Are you saying that the 360 isn't very supply constrained in Japan?

That's easier to say than to prove.  This was also claimed for the first few months after the Wii release... "even if they can increase production, they won't be able to move more units" was often heard in various VGC threads.  Proved to be wrong, but hey... people have short memories sometimes.

Great sales for Microsoft, good to know they expand in Japan (on small scale but always a good thing), because they have a lot to offer to gamers.

Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.

Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.

 

1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.

Why does it matter if 360 outsells PS3 for a few weeks/month in Japan? I kind of expected something like this once the 360 RPG madness started. I could see similar spikes for Last Remnant and IU. Don't even mention SO4.
