Forums - Gaming - Has your opinion changed on the PS3 - Post E3 / Leipzig?

From a gamer standpoint, I don't think its a matter of opinion of Sony for me as it is a time constraint. I might get 10 game hours in a week at most, so it takes a while to beat a "core" game. Having been firstly interested in the Wii before the HD consoles (still have my old 32 inch crt), I have a lot of games I have to beat before I can even get games for THAT system, never mind buy a whole new system. Part of growing up , getting all responsible and trying to get to a point where you dont HAVE to work anymore, is that you have to limit how much time you spend on entertainment.

From a developer standpoint, I see Sony starting to sprout a bit, making some progress. They took a hard hit for being pompous at the PS3 launch, and they probably deserved it for their attitude. What they need to do is either educate or silence their PR people. Its the PR guys that are really making Sony look unprofessional. I feel that the PS3 has potential for really good games, and have seen some nice graphical advances, especially in MGS4. The PS3 got off to a sluggish start and now is getting momentum to make up lost ground to the XB360. I am interested to see how they do in 09.

Nope. The price tag is still too high for my tastes, and the games just don't appeal to me. There are a few multi-platform games that appeal to me, but there are some 360 exclusives that also appeal to me and it is cheaper. If they ever start releasing games I would like to play I will reconsider, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Yeah the price is something I don't think anyone can spin.  Its value is there however.  The Free Online, the internal wifi, the built in huge HD, and the bluray?

I don't enjoy online play, and I clearly have easy access to the internet. I would only use the HD to install games on and the concept of installing my console games annoys me. When I finally broke down and got a 360 I was going to buy the Arcade model but the price drop hit and put the 20gb as only $20 more. I think that sums up how little I value the features you need a HD to get out of a console. I don't have a HDTV so I wouldn't use blu-ray. More importantly I can't actually tell the difference between DVD and blu ray (or VHS and blu ray to be perfectly honest) so I certainly won't start paying more for movies without reason. I don't know why but they look pretty mnuch the same to me for whatever reasons.

Sony has done a great job of improving their console and they have plenty of games that some love to play. They just don't have much to appeal to me personally.

The thing is for americans at least, by the end of the year BLU RAY is all but nullified. I can understand that some people want to own an actual disc. But by christmas if you have gold membership with 360 you have free access to Netflix entire library ( I believe 10,000 was stated at E3) and Netflix are currently adding all HD films. So in theory anyone who has xbox live has 10,000 films at there fingertips without leaving your armchair. This is exactly what M$ have been gearing towards. Finally I wont have to end up paying £20 for 1 Blu Ray film to watch in HD. I can begin downloading and after 5 mins start watching. Thats the future. And for me certainly nullifies the BLU RAY drive for films.

8 of my current catalogue of games are 360 exclusive at this time all of which M$ are the publisher and apart from Wipeout that you mentioned the other PS3 games you state do not mean the same as 360 exclusives I currently have that wowed me.

in so much agreement it hurts.  my 360 has been unplugged for over a year now but i'm super excited for this.  right now i spent about $50 on dvds a month so for less money i get more content!  how awesome is that!!!  plus between dvds and video games i've almost filled 3 bookshelves - i'm soo tired of devoting that much space to them, i want my living room back. xD

LOL! the both of you think blu-ray wont matter this year or fail because of netflix? those are only for streaming and only in SD. AND you have to already have a memebership with them to use it on live. saying blu-ray will be nullified is a bit dumb, maby to you but to anyone who's getting a HDTV this year blu-ray is the only choice for High-def movies. not to mention all the new movies that coming out like the dark knight......this is the year blu-ray takes off wether you like it or not, downloads nor netflix on xbox is going to stop that..sorry try again.

The PS3 to me always seems to be on the cusp of delivering something big - the big games always seem to be out next year - but it never actually seems to deliver it. Take for example, 2008, it was meant to be the year of the PS3 yet, so far to me at least, it's been dissappointing.

Maybe with the release of LBP, Resistance 2 and Home it'll finally deliver on it's potential for me.

I remember buying the Playstation 3 and 360 at launch. I'm one of the few odd ones who is very used to rolling with the punches. The games library was unimpressive to me, up until I destroyed all my preconcepted notions of genres and actually played them.

When I finally beat Resistance (I hated it when I first got it, but than I actually played through it), Uncharted, Ratchet, Heavenly Sword, and MGS4 - I realized something. The Playstation 3 games were of uber-quality and were doing very right. The library is almost there, but once LBP and R2 come out, IF they hit the scale I want them to, I can see myself taking back my vicarious claims on the game's library.

I think the problem is that if you own a 360 and have a friend who's PS3 you can play on you realise exactly why you didnt purchase one yet. See The games you mentioned are between ok and good(apart from MGS4 the sole reason for me to own a PS3). The 360 has far more quality titles on offer, and after playing say NG2 a game like HS seems slow and cumbersome. Uncharted is good, but for 3rd person shooters you have GeoW. Ratchet is certainly a matter of taste (of which Mario wins hands down) and MGS4 has no current competition (I doubt Conviction will be half as good unless a miracle happens.)

When my collection consists of

Mass Effect

Eternal Sonata

Halo 3

Gears of War

Lost Odyssey

Ninja Gaiden 2

Blue Dragon

Bioshock

Command and Conquer 3

Kameo

The Orange Box

Forza 2

Soul Calibur 4

Devil May Cry 4

Oblivion

GTA 4

Why would I need a PS3????

On top of that the new dashboard is right on the money and the new live stuff at E3 puts 360 a leap in front on on line services again. 10,000 films available for free if you have gold by the end of the year. Seriously why would I spend £350 on a Ps3 when I can buy 8 good to great games for my 360 by the end of the year?

There are only two games on the 360 that are needed on the PS3: Gears of War and Lost Oddyssey. That's it.

If you want to talk about the shortage of exclusives, the only console with a decent number of upcoming games is the Wii. At least 80 Percent of Hi Def games coming out are coming to both consoles at this point.

Edit - To those who think that Netflix on 360 is even a challenge to Blu Ray: LMFAO ahahahhahahahha fucking noob.

I'm sure that most PS3 owners wouldnt say no to Halo 3, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, Ninja Gaiden 2 or Forza 2.

Also in what way does Netflix not challenge BLU RAY? It's far cheaper, has HD films in 1080P and only costs $50 a year to watch what ever you want without having to go to a shop. Can you fit 10,000 films on your shelves at home???

And there is no need for profanities. Calling me a noob when you have 303 posts is funny. :)

haha thats what iv been saying all this time when it come to ps3 and 360 games. besides the xbox first party exclusives EVERY other game is also on ps3, so if you dont care about MS first pary games( like me) thers no reson for me or anybody to pick up a 360. xbox owners act like 3rd party games are ONLY on xbox LOL! last time i  checked there are more than 15 3rd party games i want for the ps3 starting with silent hill on september 30th.so im more than happy to be a ps3 owner, and thers no reson for me to pick up any other system. it has the 3rdparty games and the exclusives that i want this year. and to the people thinking netflix will hurt blu-ray you must be crazy, i guess you havn't watched a blu-ray movie on a 50'' TV with 5.1 uncompressed sound, like sony would say.....its like no other....LOL!

how does it not challenge it?  i don't have a blu-ray player and netflix (with its HD downloads) means i will never have to.

counting sales: netflix +1, blu-ray +0

I see people talking about Bluray being nullified because of the Netflix agreement.

Do any of these people even have a Netflix account?

People are saying they are constantly adding HD movies. Yes, they are, but only Bluray. Instant view movies are SD only, no HD option for viewing. I use the instant view feature sometimes. I hear people saying "download" as well, the movies are streamed.

Also 10,000 movies, yes. Have you seen the selection as I have? Majority of it is B rated movies or old classic films. New releases are not added and the newest selection that I have seen in the last few days that is not a B rated low budget Zombie flick is from 2005-2006.

Looking for high budget top notch films? You won't find them anywhere on Netflix instant view.

Sign up for a Netflix account and you will see exactly why it does not challenge it. There is a reason why you get unlimted viewing along with your account for just $10.

Anyone actually believed $10 a month gets you non stop streaming, all day and all night of new released HD movies?

Ouch...

New release this week. "Outbreak" starring Morgan Freeman. "1995"
