This would be bad for Nintendo. It would never happen, MS and Nintendo are too different for a merger to ever be possible.

Microsoft already tried to buy nintendo once and they were given the finger by yamauchi san so no chance in hell this would happen. As far as what i think about it i would say no thank you, I already got microsoft shoveled down my throat with windows and that more than enough.

I've been playin' games for a long time and I think if that day ever came, I would pack it all in!

@Valkyria: I wouldn't say that Wiis online sucks, they just have a different approach and are still testing it. I have a hunch about where Nintendo is aiming and Wiis successor will surprise us all with its online. Granted, Live does have a few things better, most remarkably fully standardisized system for online play.

Sony + MS merger would be a more likely scenario. When MS pulls out of the console race they will be selling game franchises to Sony. I believe there will be no new Xbox.

Why? There's every reason to believe that there will be another Xbox. The Xbox360 will have topped the sales of the original Xbox by the end of 2009, easy. They're even starting to make money back on the gaming division (finally). Plus, the Xbox360 has tons of support. The only way things will go badly for the Xbox is if MS actually does rush another one to market in 2009 or 2010 because that will no doubt alienate the hell out of many 3rd party developers. Aside from that, they're doing pretty well.

Ouch. I suspect you may in fact be the only one who wants this: the fanbase of each company is pretty much diametrically opposed to the other's model of business and of gaming.
