Completely agree.  This is obviously not a gameplay screen.  Publishing stuff like this as a gameplay screen will only hurt their image when actual ones come out (Killzone we are looking at you).

 There is no way Halo 3 will look better than Gears, also Killzone 2 could look better than Halo 3, I mean they haven't set a crazy standard (Halo 3). 

No matter how much the difference between the single plaeyr and multiplayer graphics, it's not gonna be better than Gears, that's too much of a divide.

Wow, just Wow! After having played the beta and having so much fun with it, I am glad to see Bungie show off a little to satiate the graphic whores. Anyone who dissed Halo3's graphics can now proceed to put said foot in said mouth.

I think its fairly obvious that Bungie intentionally 'dumbed down' the graphics for the beta.   Probably for two reasons:

  1. Needed to be a reasonably sized download, and a full set of textures would have made download too big.
  2. To keep some 'wow' factor for the game's release.

I think it has the potential to look better than Gears, especially in wide open spaces and with more color to the world. Bungie says it's an in-game screenshot, so if the models come out this detailed with the backgrounds looking that awesome, pass the crown to Halo 3, IMO.

Bungie claims that the image is game graphics using the game engine. After the backlash from the beta graphics, they have too much to lose by lying about something like this. I think the screenie is legit. And impressive. Very, VERY impressive.

I think everyone should calm down and wait and see what it actually looks like in action instead of a zoomed in screen of master chief.

I believe it IS a gameplay screen.

There is a good reason MS have kept Halo3 close to their chests - I expect the gfx to surprise people when we actually see what the single player game will look like.

(but its probably from an in-game cutscene - using the gfx hardware of course)
