The Kratos vs Link thread brought up an interesting idea; that the player (like you or me) could turn off the console and thus "beat" these ccharacters, but then I pointed out that would only be the case if no one else was playing the game.

For example, in order to "kill" Mario, you would have to turn off every single console on which any Mario game or any game with Mario in it is being played around the entire world. Mike Tyson's Punch out and Tennis count for this since he has cameo appearances there. With the sheer number of copies and number of different games Mario has been in, both old consoles and new consoles, I would put it at 99.999% likelyhood that somewhere around the world, SOMEONE is playing a game with Mario in it every second of the day.

But I figured, hey, what OTHER characters might be able to achieve this, even to a partial extent? Obviously Peach, Bowser or Luigi might also be able to pull of similar levels of immortality. I think the Zelda fans might have it so that even with less games, the games would be played more often on an individual level, so Link still could effectively be immortal, Along with Zelda and Ganon, but that may not be as popular in japan, so that actually may only be about 80% immortal.

However a character like Kirby might not get played as constantly. Maybe he's only 12 hours out of the day on average, so we'll give him a 50% immortality rating.

All of this could obviously be contested, but what about other characters? Kratos, Master Chief, Cloud, Banjo & Kazooie, James Bond, etc.

So put out a list of characters and list their likelyhood of being immortal given these guidelines.

Well I would suggest that every pokemon that is in every pokedex version is most likely more immortal than Mario.

Mario is immortal because he abuses 1-up mushrooms.

In Real Life, as going by the idea that as long as game with Mario in it is being played somewhere in the world, he doesn't "die".

And I almost agree with the pokemon thing, except that many games cut off access to pokemon as you move from one game to the next, and those are also all different individual pokomen from game to game. there's no way to say for certain that torchick is the same as that torchick, etc.

The Tetris Blocks cant be destroyed either

Pong is more immortal than Mario it was the first video Game ever made and no one's ever gonna forget about Pong.

um... not just talking about it being remembered, guys. I'm talking about the actual game being played. Tetris I can sorta see. Pong, I'm not so sure about. I mean, everyone may remember it, but I kinda doubt that it's getting played 24/7 by someone somewhere on the world.

Well I would say with the amount of people playing Halo 3 online at any given time, Master Chief never dies. Ummm...outside of that, I dunno. I would say currently, Master Chief and Mario would be the two most immortal characters on earth. Also, yes this is really lame and I can't believe I'm lame enough to partake in this. I'm a real lamer gamer...
