Forums - Gaming - How will 1st/3rd party devs compensate for the lackluster E3

This is basically asking your opinion of how will game developers compensate for the laughable showings at E3?  Will there be any other big shows where they will show off their games?  With the only huge bomb being dropped was 360's FFXIII announcement, how will Nintendo and PS3 counter that?  Will they host their own shows? Go to TGS and blow the doors off that event?  Or announce titles as they're ready to do so?  How did you feel about the lack of big announcements?  There has been lots of backlash especially against Wii and the lack of it's core titles, do you think Nintendo will try to get as much info about its core titles that are in the works out there now?

IMO, Sony will most likely counter at TGS trying to show off new info about it's big games and some new exclusives.

Nintendo may show up to TGS for a change, honestly they should and use it as a replacement for E3 and show off their core titles to make up for E3's lack of.

MS might go to TGS as they're trying to get into the Japanese market and may show off some new RPG's or bring some western RPG's to Japan.

I think all devs should do something to make up for E3, TGS is a big show to do a lot of that, but they may go the route of showing off their games as they become ready, it may become standard as many more devs might drop E3, and I would go as far to say that it will start becoming a industry standard if no gameshow comes up and takes the place of E3.  I would personally hate for there not to be a big game show anymore as it's always like Christmas day to me to hear of all these cool new ideas and great games that are shown off all at one time.

From what I understand, Sony is dividing up it's announcements between E3, Leipzig, and TGS.

At E3 they announced new projects from SCEA (God of War III, MAG), at Leipzig, they are showing off new SCEE stuff (Heavy Rain will be re-unveiled, as well as other announcements), and at TGS will come the SCEI stuff (presumably Team ICO, among other things).

Sony is the only one of the big three at Leipzig this year, and they have a whole conference that will be starting in six hours. They've promised 12 new announcements for the show. :)

Nintendo I'm far less sure about. They'll probably have some presence at TGS, but I think they'll show the big stuff whenever they're ready, most likely at an event of their own.

I expect Zelda to surface at E309, however, with a Holiday '09 release date.

I'm not sure about Zelda in 09 I'm sure first screens and gameplay maybe, it could very well be end of 09 but I would not be surprised to see it go to 2010 =\

I'm positive Pikmin 3 is a mid 09 title, Kid Icarus is probably going to be early Q2 since people are already seeing working builds it seems.

Yeah I forgot about Leipzig and Sony being there.

I was really disappointed in all 3 companies showcases at E3 but MS did at least have one big blockbuster, I was really saddened to not see anything really exciting from Nintendo or Sony, Motion+ was the only thing that I got really interested in and that was because of the games that CLOUD be made but if Nintendo had let other devs in on it we might have had a 1:1 motion lightsaber game by Q1 of 09 and might have had a few more games that showed off what devs can do with the 1:1 motion but now we have to wait...

If we don't see Zelda until 2010, it will have been an abnormally long wait between Zeldas.

Twilight Princess has been out for almost two years now, and there's usually only 2-3 years between Zeldas, outside of Twilight Princess, which was delayed a year to make the Wii's launch.

Logic tells me that a new Zelda should make it out next year, but my gut gives me a similar feeling to yours. Though I suppose we normally would've gotten screens by now if it was due out next year, but given Nintendo's new strategy of showing games mere months before release, I would assume we wouldn't see anything of Zelda until just prior to release as well.

As for Kid Icarus, people also claimed it would be shown at E308 and released during this holiday season. Given the rumors of Factor 5 talking to Nintendo about making the game as late as the beginning of this year, I think it may be a long ways off yet (at least a year, imo).

Of course, a Holiday '09 release of Kid Icarus would fly in the face of my Zelda theory, so let's hope you're right. >_>

I believe M$ said that they were going to have a show completely dedicated to Halo related games. Bungie's big gun is still in M$'s holster.

Well you may very well be right as right after Twilight Princess came out Miyamoto said he was going to change the whole structure of Zelda, so it's not going to be the normal weapons or the 3 dungeons, master sword, 6-8 more dungeons then final boss. So they might have saved it till E3 09 and release in 09 because it should surprise a lot of folks, whatever Miyamoto has in store should be very exciting.

I mean Kid Icarus seems like a no brainier Q1 or Q2 release, a lot like how MK Wii was just sprung on everyone early 08 and was out in Q2, I'm thinking when January hits we'll get a lot of info on it then it's going to be out by May 09.

I think Nintendo may give a little more news regarding Pikmin 3 and maybe a few snips or words on Disaster Day of Crisis, Zelda, and maybe something they've yet to reveal as they really seem like they want to make up for E3.

Honestly I think it would probably renew a lot of faith (if you go with Soriku's theory about KH3) and at TGS KH3 was revealed for Wii, while that is a casual friendly title many core players love it and would totally forget about E3 if that were to happen. (TGS is where almost all big KH news is revealed so I got my fingers crossed)
