Ya well, I still think you've got the wrong idea...it's not like uber-realistic games will be the only games...and I think it's incorrect to compare ATHF and Venture Bros (two of my favorite shows) to realistic animation...I think you should compare it to a live action show.
Animation and live action are totally different. So all we have had for the past decades of gaming is the "animation" part...which is simply different than real life...because it's technologically impossible still.
But when it is possible...I am totally up for it. Imagine walking down a realistic city block, virtually indecipherable from real life, and being able to do whatever you want...or a Star Wars game where the characters are all life-like, etc.
There can still be room for artistic vision...the developers could still warp appearances a certain way...they can opt for a cel-shaded look, whatever.
I guess I just don't understand the animosity towards realism...not all games have to look like they came out real life...but a few would be awesome.
@Xen, just because a human in a game looks like a human in real life doesn't mean you'll be staring at cutscenes or "playing out a movie"...I'd say there's more room than ever for creativity when the world is your canvas...right now we're limiting to a certain amount of polygons and animations...what about when there are no more limits? The possibilities for excellent videogames will be much greater, whether or not they go for realism.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release. (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
