Forums - Gaming - Help me figure out to do with my gaming budget.

tv... get the best you can afford.  The tv is the component of a gaming set up that has the longest life (I'd get a sony bravia 42" or bigger!  oh wait.. i did :).  don't accept anything less that 1080p.

if you want both consoles i'd get the ps3 first.... and the xbox360 whenever.. wouldn't bother with the ps2 (seems like a waste of money if you have BC in the PS3).

Well...u can always send me a check with the money =) but, if u want to spend it on yourself (selfish cow...jk) get an X360.

I found a X360 60gb pro (NEW) + GTA4 for 299 (NEW), i think thats a good deal...dont you people think?

Okay, seems like everyone agrees, get the 360 first.

My questions aren't meant as challenges, I'm just digging for info.

@Soriku: I forgot to put GC, I owned 100's of GC games but traded most in. Very funny (as I'm pretty sure you knew this already)  Edit: Tales is my #4 favorite Series... hmm, I'm even more sure you knew...

@toastboy: I forgot about installs, that is a good point.

@Scullio & Onyxmeth: Is bigger really better. 32" is pretty big in a living room where I sit 6 feet from the TV, but bigger is impressive and will be pretty cool for the parties (but more likely to get stolen).

I've played lots of RPGs, but mostly, I want a PS2 to replay FFX and XII (and VII, VIII, IX so I can put away the PS1). Do PS2 memory cards work for PS1 games? I forget.

@Obliterator1700: Is the better brand really gonna be better? It does look better in the store when it's next to other TVs but when I get it home I probably won't notice. But quality is my question, is it really gonna be any more dependable? Also, thanks for mentioning NG2, I always forget that series... Mass Effect I keep saying I will get that for PC.

@Rainbird: Yes, Motorstorm:Pacific Rift looks really good, it's a coming soon game that I forgot about so I won't complain about breaking the rule.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Where are you planning on buying the tvs?

Right now it looks like Wal Mart, because they are so much cheaper.  The same TV's on New Egg and at Best Buy are 50-150 more.

Go with 360 Pro/Elite and a PS2. THat'll give you an incredible gaming library to choose from right off the bat. You said you liked JRPGs too, and we both know that PS2 was the king last gen and the 360 is the king this gen. If you can, get a chipped PS2 ;)

EDIT: No, PSX saves can't be saved to a PS2 memory card. You'll need to use a PSX Memory Card.

So here's how I see it

The Vizio 32" -has bad sound quality. Now you don't want to play your games with bad sound right?

The Vizio 42"- For the price and quality it offers I'll go for it, but then again its a risk, considering how low the price is.

Polaroid 46",42s"- This Tv brand isn't known well, so don't expect everything to be descent forget perfect. Judging by the other tvs they offer they're aren't so great according to customers.

Bravia 32"- I would have to go with this. No one in Walmart rated it below a 3. It goes as follows. 23 people rated it a 5/5. 2 people rated it a 4/5 and 1 a 3/5. This would be my selection, but then again you should do some more research. Bravia is the best brand out of what you listed in my opinion.

Compare Compaq and Dell...Which one has better quality?

In conclusion, I'll say quality matters.

Those are some really good observations.

For sound, I'm probably going to pick up a cheap-easy surround sound system or get it for my birthday (October) from someone.

You've helped me narrow it down to either the 42" Vizio or 32" Bravia.  I'll probably get the service contract (only $88 from Walmart).  They've also got Emerson, RCA, and Sanyo 32" for <500.  I have to see it in person but right now I'm not considering it more than giving it a look.

Bravia's looking pretty good.

I still have a month to think it through.

@Steven

You have all the dmc series?

@Soriku: Okay. Sorry for forgetting GC.
