that has nothing to do with Microsoft bringing a console out every 5 years. Sega and Nintendo have been doing that for decades before Sony and Microsoft even came into the game. if anything, Sony has milked the success of the PS2, and rightly so. the PS2 is an amazing success, but thats because it had the market to itself for nearly 2 years before the orginal Xbox came out.

that will not happen again in gaming, its too competitive now that we have 3 companys selling well. I brought my 360 in 2005, so I'm expecting my 720 in 2010. but i got my PS3 end of last year, and I really can't say what I expect from Sony. I've waited so long for decent games and HOME to come out I don't really care to wait anymore!. if I didn't have the 360 to get me buy I'd be going crazy if I just had a PS3 by itself.

Sony said the PS3 has a 10 year cycle, but now I can see why, it'll take them that long to get everything out and running for it....lol

 

Why would you be going crazy?  %70 of games on the 360 are availible on PS3 and another %20 you can play on the thing we're all using to post on here.  A PC.  No need for a 360, I've got Resistance, Viva Pinata and a whole bunch of games availible for PC.  MGS4, Uncharted, Rachet and Clank will never come out for PC, that's why I find it odd that a PS3 solo would make you go crazy.

Yeah, most consoles have a 5 or 6 year lifespan before their manufacturer releases a new console ... I could see one of them pushing their console to 7 years if it was performing well as they approached the 5 year mark and their competition wasn't releasing a new console within a year, but that would be fairly unusual.

Might be half true atleast.
The 360 runs on DVDs so the 360 will be a paper weight very quickly just like the original. The PS3 runs on BD so it has years ahead to take on bigger and bigger games, just like the PS1 and PS2.
Main reason I choose a PS3, $499 everything I need in the box I can enjoy over 10 years OR $399 + $250 in acessories not included=$650 that will be useless in 4 and a half years.

Erm, why would Crytek, of all folks, be telling us this? I really don't trust them since they promised me a fantastic revolution with Crysis and I would rather take an MS and Sony official statement for good fish over this.

lol at all of you who doubt that MS and Sony will put out new consoles by 2012.

Name one generation where at least one of the big parties didn't release a new console within 6 yrs.

In everycase the next-gen started around 5/6 yrs. So, saying 6/7 is actually giving an extra year to the 'norm' already.

I'd rather they release the new consoles in 2011 or 2012. That way companies can make better returns on the current systems (especially Sony). Since all 3 console manufactuers are doing relatively well, i think they would benefit from a longer console cycle

End of 2009 Predictions (made Jan 1, 2009): My predictions were pretty accurate, the 360 was over and the Wii was just under.

Wii: 65 mil (yea I'm crazy) 360: 35 mil (its getting there) PS3: 30 mil (the slim better do well)

End of 2010 Predictions (made Jan 7, 2010):

Wii: 81 mil  360: 47 mil PS3: 45 mil

Well, with the way Sony and Microsoft are screwing around with marketing their SKUs (chiefly Sony), I'd doubt they would try to release another console. In all seriousness, I think Sony that made themselves like fools this generation of gaming.

they maybe announce by that time but they will come at least a year later and currect consoles will still be selling.
