Forums - Gaming - The Next big flop

@ the source, I assume this is from pre-orders? It is more of an aRPG, so it could have more success in the west, though I am sure the stupid name will not help. You would have thought that tri-ace's reputation should help

I know that in the UK they are planning an ad campaign, you can see the poster on their site, so that should boost sales a little, and there are some pre-order bonuses avaliable too.

However, that is worrying, as it does look like a very good game

As much as I like Little Big Planet, it looks like it hasn't been off to a good start on pre-orders. Usually when an anticipated game gets put up for pre-order they get a big boost up front then die down and increase again before the game hits.

Little Big Planet comes out the same week as Fable 2. Little Big Planet's pre-orders already dropped off, but Fable 2 is still hanging around up top. Fable 2 has also been on pre-order longer.

Maybe people are just waiting to see what kind of pre-order bonuses their are before deciding where to order from. Hopefully that is the case.

I've asked all my friends who have PS3s if they are buying Little Big Planet, most of them don't know what it is. Then I tell them what it's about and I get no reaction.

I would have thought Little Big Planet would be beasting Too Human sales. Too Human has so much bad rep revolving around it and it's selling more? I know Too Human comes out tomorrow, but DAMN, even Fable 2 is outselling Too Human at this point.

id say its a little unfair to compare fable 2, a huge game with a track record selling to a userbase thats roughly twice as large and gobbles up games like a hungry hungry hippo, to a new IP from Sony that hasnt even bagan its marketing push a bit unfair.

That said, also saying too human being ahead of LBP (assuming your using amazon) as indication too human will sell more when LBP doesnt even come out for 2 months....just wow. Youre logic astounds me. LBP will sell 3x Too Human. mark my words.

The next flop is going to be left for dead, imo. I think there are far to many great complex, story driven shooters with far more substance coming out for. including resistance, gears 2.....i think it will get lost in the shuffle and have mediocre sales.....speaking strictly from a console analysis.

PS. Most of your friends dont know what LBP yet and neither does the majority of gamers out there...since there havent been any commercials or any marketing....but when i showed the video to my girlfriend with Battles playing in the background she was very interested....she hates games. I love games and am very interested......that right there is why LBP will be huge. Its as close to hitting all markets as possible form Sony. No way this game flops.

also the bolded areas contradict one another....if its so anticipated why do your friends not know about it?

Anticipated among forum geeks I suppose, I guess thats where all the hype has been. I thought my friends would have known about, but I guess I was wrong.

I do know that Amazon isn't a good way to track sales. Soul Calibur sold more on PS3 but sold less in the real world. I also referenced Gamestop. >_<

I'm not the only one saying LBP might FAIL BTW. ^_^ I just told you why it looks like it's failing. I did my part to make it not FAIL, my pre-order is with Gamestop (I don't hate the game)

Ohhh, that is a really good reason why it won't fail, just because you like it. Just because of that, the whole world will too. haha come on dude, my reason was better. Yes, your logic astounds me too.

reading comprehension....talk about fucking tunnel vision.

At least one of these: Little Big Planet, Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, Animal Crossing, and / or Wii Music.  However, I also think that at least one of them could turn out to be surprisingly good.

My most anticipated games:  Whatever Hideo Kojima is going to do next, Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Gran Turismo 5, Alan Wake, Wii Sports Resort.  Cave Story Wiiware.

It really goes to show that it doesn't matter how long some have played games for when u read some peoples answers. How could it be M.A.G when it's so far away and it HASN'T been hyped yet?

LBP,... lol, clueless indeed! LBP has way too much momentum, push and love from the media for that to happen, keep dreamin' though. I wonder if the same people that said MGS4 will flop are the ones who are saying LBP?

I am going to say Spore as well and/or the Force Unleashed.

That's the point though. LBP is one of the few games hyped enough to flop... I wouldn't even say force unleashed is big enough to flop.

Spore's sales are more guranteed them LBP, the creature creator already sold like 2 million+ copies, combine that with how many creatures are already in the creature database... over 10 times what Will Wright expected and there is no way for that spore will flop.

It has way more momentum then LBP it's just hard to see cause it's a PC game and PC games don't get covered by the console focused.

Of course i'm talking about sales.  Not review scores.  Neither of which should flop review scores wise.  Well except for those people expecting 97+

if you suggest that everyone and his cat is expecting LBP to easily hit 5million because 3 or 4 users here said so, then in my (not so humble) opinion it's because you want to believe everyone is thinking the same they are ...
and are probably looking forward to make use of your self-granted bragging rights, if the game fails to hit 5million units sold (or is looking to fail that mark)

.. atleast that's the impression I got from your post I initially replied to

1. Didn't I already state that 5 million was more of an average from the predictions I've seen?
2. I don't gloat over the realizations of my predictions.   "I told you so" just alienates people.
3. If...IF...did you not see the "IF" in my post?  IF the hype if 5 million.  I think there was IF there.

I don't see how you got the impression I wanted the hype to be 5 million based on my post but I'm sure you see I'm not the only one expecting it to flop based on the hype.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

There is as much chance that Final Fantasy XIII will be a flop as there is that the next Zelda will be a flop.

I don't see how you got the impression I wanted the hype to be 5 million based on my post bit I'm sure you see I'm not the only oen expecting it to flop based on the hype.

but lets be honest and forthright. This forum isnt really a very good "objective" source to use in terms of pointing to userbase. The next potential "flop" in the terms im now seeing displayed here will most likely be Killzone 2, Alan Wake or Home. Only because based on what qualifications people are using. It takes a company tooting horns, and delays up the wazoo or the tooting of horns for a long period of time. Sony hasnt even started "hyping" LBP....the hype has come from users thats only a good sign.

In terms of using sales projections....disregard what people say here. We all know a new IP selling anywhere near 2 million is successfull so why dont we just go ahead and use that as a bar. and i fail to see how LBP sells less than that.

I don't LBP will flop in the way that Haze or Lair did, but I don't expect that it will do for Sony what they think it will. It isn't going to bring them the Wii market. The console is still $150 more than the Wii and doesn't have enough other cute little fun games like LBP to back it up. Imagine if Nintendo got a violent exclusive game for the Wii and hyped to the sky. The Wii doesn't have the catalog to back that up, it has more general audience friendly games. So, what Sony is doing with the LBP doesn't fit. They don't have the catalog to back up LBP. MGS4 was a much better compliment. So, I think LBP will be a disappointment in terms of hype versus the results.

I give this thread a 9.5.

White Knight Story

I see a lot of fanboys hyping the hell out of this game, saying it's going to move PS3s in Japan, sell over a million, etc. Thing is, Level 5 doesn't have that many wildly successful games ouutside of Dragon Quest and Professor Layton. I'm not sure why this game is supposed to be special.

do you know dragon quest its the biggest game it exist in japan?

even bigger than final fantasy?

its going to be huge game.
