Forums - Sony - Used 60Gb PS3s selling for more than new 80Gb in UK

Just got this here.

http://www.videogaming247.com/2008/08/18/used-60gb-ps3s-selling-for-more-than-new-80gb-in-uk/

UK retailer GAME is selling a handful of used 60Gb Playstation3s for the princely sum of £349.99 and upwards.

This is £50 more than the new 80Gb model which is heavily rumoured to be hitting UK shores this Friday.

In fact, 60Gb models have been selling for around £400 on Amazon, which, combined with GAME’s high pricing, could mean that backwards compatibility is something people want and are willing to pay extra for.

Just a hunch.

Is this a good deal?.

as soon as ps2 stops selling, as if my majic sony wil issue a ps2 patch for ps3`s.

personally when i got my ps3 i got hold of ff12 and shadow of collosus, after completing them i have never bought any ps2 game and never will, so im not interested in backwards compatability

...not much time to post anymore, used to be awesome on here really good fond memories from VGchartz...

PSN: Skeeuk - XBL: SkeeUK - PC: Skeeuk

really miss the VGCHARTZ of 2008 - 2013...

Supply vs demand .

once PS2 demand/game sales die down and retailers don't hold an interest anymore, expect downloadable PS2 titles on PSN

You may be right about that.

The 60 GB in the US had both the PS2's CPU and GPU. The 60 GB in the UK (and the rest of Europe) had the PS2's GPU, but not CPU. The 40 GB or $399 BC doesn't have any PS2 hardware. Emulation is possible, but it would require large development costs and not all games would work, so I am not sure if I should count on it.

I paid £325 for mine, when they were going for £400 or so on ebay. They were once a rare find as they had just sold out in stores and all those who missed them, wanted one because of that PS2 backwards compatability.

Hmm, pie.

I think Sony should release a model for an extra £50 with the RSX built in (which would only cost them a little extra) and some extra HDD space

i would have though most owners of a PS3 already had a PS2

a magic patch that makes all ps2 games work at once with software emulation is really unlikely. personally i would think its more likely that they add software emulation that is optimized and tested with a few games and sell the games that its working with on psn.

Over time they could increase compatibility and at same time get more or less the whole catalogue of ps2 titles on psn.
