Forums - Gaming - Timed-Exclusivity?

For the past few weeks, I've been browsing around and reading enough video game information to drown a household pet. Now, as a passionate gamer, I find it rather disturbing that most games (if not all) that have been marked as timed-exclusive is going to appear first on the Xbox 360. Honestly, what's the point? Of course, from a business perspective, Microsoft wants nothing more than to have their console seem more appealing than their competitors. With a price-cut just around the corner and a huge lineup of games, they're setting themsleves to have a grand holiday season. But, from a gaming perspective, why have this bogus timed-exclusivity in the first place? Why not just have silmultaneous releases of these games? It just bothers me to know that I'll need to wait for months before playing a game that's probably old news for Xbox 360 owners. So, does anyone else share my feeling on the matter?

Games with timed-exclusivity (From what I know)

Rockband 2

The Last Remnant

Tales of Vesperia (????)

If you haven't realised by now, I am a PS3 owner. Regardless, I adore and respect both consoles. Both have a great library of video games. I just find it annoying that I simply have to wait more just to play a game on the PS3.

Guidelines to understanding my train of thought:

  • THE METAL GEAR SOLID FRANCHISE IS THE BEST THING TO HIT THE PLANET SINCE THE PS3!! THUS, MGS FRANCHISE >> SLICED-BREAD.
  • Solid Snake shall and well always shove 1up mushrooms up Mario's ass.
  • Solid Snake shall and well always decimate Master Chief with a flurry of rocket launchers, shotgun rounds, and a 20 minute monologue.

Well as you said, it's going first to the 360, so obviously it's not going to affect all gamers, just PS3 owners. Next, Tales of Vesperia is not a timed exclusive, it's exclusive all around. There are merely rumblings of a possible PS3 port down the line. Rockband 2 has timed exclusivity for 360 though? I didn't know that.

While this doesn't affect me pesonally, I'm not for screwing other gamers over, so I understand this sucks and in my mind should probably stop.

Regarding Rockband 2, that's what I read. Though, I could be wrong. And you're right, this garbage with timed-exclusivity needs to stop. Regarding Tales of Vesperia, I just threw it in there for some comical relief.

Mircosoft is lame. we know they are trying to monoplozie. the market and if they almost succeed well hello law suit. it's illegal to try to monolplize any market.

Sony and Nintendo both tried the same crap. You can't monopolise the market through timed exclusivity. It's not possible.

Yeah timed exclusive means nothing that you just have to wait, but a lot of people have both PS3 and 360 so it will generate more 360 sales for that game.

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

It's what Microsoft's always done. Remember back like 7, 8 years ago the courts broke up Microsoft because it was dangerously close to being a monopoly? It's their business plan, a damn good one, and they really dont give a shit who gets owned in the process.

They've been successful, my hat's off to them, but it doesn't stop me from hating their guts with a passion.

@Gearbox: Is it illegal to monoplozie or monolplize? Or both?

@OP: Depends on the reason, I guess. In the case of Last Remnant, I think it's not a bad thing since they've hit a developmental snag on the PS3 version. I agree that sucks if it's being done for purely moneyhatting reasons, though.

MS wants the competition to look unappealing. It's as simple as that.
