Forums - Gaming - Is the fact Wii has no DL demos hurt 3rd party games?

i fully believe that it has hurt 3rd party sales. Because i find it hard to believe that No More Heroes and Zack and Wiki would have sold as they have if there were demos for the game.

But eh, at the very least there should be something along the lines of a "preview channel" where the better quality games are shown *so as to filter out all the crap games on the wii*. Only problem would be what games are shown, and whether developers have to pay for them or not but meh. At least it would be a step in the right direction.

I think it hurts sales... but in opposite games you think it hurts.

Though I think No More Heroes and Zack and Wiki would of sold about the same. Mad World as well.

Demo's work better for the more high profile games. (assuming the demo is fun.)

Most people don't just randomly download demos. They download demos of something that looks like it appeals to them or at least heard of.

Someone might go "You know i don't really think i'll like CoD5... but i keep seeing adds for it everywhere, what the hell i'll download it and give it a try."

Also, No More Heroes would not have a demo.

Last thing anyone at Nintendo or Grasshopper needs is some mom to see her kid playing this scene...

I doubt it'll hurt much. I own a Wii and PS3 and I don't download demo's for the PS3 because:

1) My internet is fast enough to play online, but not fast enough to download a demo (or at least it wasn't back in my 360 days). I'm not willing to download something that plays for a short time that eats a considerable chunk of my 25gb monthly limit

2) I trust review sites because GT and IGN's opinions are usually how I feel about games.

Then again, I would not have bought games like Kameo, Assassin's Creed, Oblivion etc if I had played those demo's beforehand. Don't get me wrong, they are great games, just not my cup of tea.

Yea it matters. Totally agree with titles that need to generate interest if their new ip's. Fix it ninty

Anyone play the java level for Zack and Wiki earlier this year on the website? I thought it was quite cool, Definetly a good idea although how do you sell that? Noone knew it was there.

You can hype a new IP easily. Just promote it enough and also make sure the graphics are good enough

nothing sells as much as word of mouth. without a demo there is none except pictures. "It looks amaza-za-zing"!!!!11!

There was a time when there were no downloadable demos and you had to take a chance! Or buy a magazine with a demo inside..............................................

Anyways I dunno maybe. I liked to play the demos on my friends 360. It can sell or break a purchase. Stopped me from wanting skate and made me crave Eternal Sonata.

I agree. I feel Nintendo has had a pretty significant exposure problem (outsite their own big titles) for a couple generations now. To me theres no reason why they can't have D/L demos when they have the trailers and random Videos (which I watched a bunch of with my wife the other day).

Especially with so many people still standing in lines to by the system the ought to be doing more to intice them towards impulse games and the like.

Couldn't agree with you any more.

I think not being able to download demos on the wii hurts some of the more unknown projects, ones that people are interested in but unsure of but I don't think it's prohibitive.

Not a detrimental downside but certainly has some impact. Most of the games I personally download demos for I was going to buy anyway and a demo has either resulted in no effect or me not buying the game as the demo was enough to satiate my hunger for the game..(I'm looking at you Ninja Gaiden II)

@Dragonos: Something like... Nintendo Channel? That would be awesome idea.
