He was trying to run folding@home and a light on his ps3 turned red, here is what he said, "i was running folding@home and when i went back to my ps3 the red light was blinking. i restarted it and the light blinked green, then yellow, then just blinked red." He now needs to pay sont 150$ to get it fixed. It has been about a week and he didn't get the box he needed to ship it to sony. Has this happened to any of you?

sorry no problems here. i have heard that folding@home can become a problem a few reports on the internet has popped up.

Folding@home is a common reason for PS3's breaking.

Im glad i didnt download it.

if the box hasnt arrived have him call Sony again to see if they shipped one. Also tel him to pull out the HDD and put it back in. A reformat might solve the problem.

does any body really understand what folding at home is really for?

well my sister camera broke and we havent got the box for it yet even though it was orded like a few weeks ago. but my ps3 broke and it came like three days later and came back a week and a half after i sent it

Folding@home is for a good cause....but its wrecking PS3s everywhere!

I've had same problem twice! Guess I've just been unlucky with PS3s.

In UK they replaced the second unit even though it was out of warranty, although I did imply they should on the phone due to having two failures, etc. To my surprise they got me a new 60GB in three days - I'd heard if you had a 60GB you had to wait a looong time.

Main cause when I inquired is either overheating due to poor ventilation etc or the unit being knocked violently when active.
