Forums - Sony - I'm finally buying a PS3, but I have some questions (60GB VS 80GB)

Yay! I finally have enough money to buy a PS3, but I have a couple of questions before I buy a specific SKU.

The thing is, I really want to be able to play my old PS2 games. I've heard that the 60GB plays them all with barely any issues, but the 80GB can play a couple of them as well. I have some rare games like Gradius V, R-Type Final and Gradius III & IV collection. I'd really like to know if the 80GB can play those games ''decently.'' That's pretty much the only games I'm sure the 80GB could have issues with since they are either too rare, or too old (?). I don't really want to check for a 60GB since there's barely any difference anyway (both have the memory card reader, I'm guessing same CPU and GPU, etc.), and it doesn't come with MGS 4 and a Dual Shock 3.

Also, I've heard that there's another 80GB SKU that doesn't come with Metal Gear Solid 4, but does it include a Dual Shock 3 and is it backwards compatible?

The new 80 GB (without MGS) does NOT have BC. I don't know about the dualshock.

Enter in the game name and it will tell you any problems with playback.

There is the new 80 Gig which is essentially the old 40 gig with a bigger HDD. Don't know if it has Dual Shock 3 or not, but I assume it does.

Because a PS3 with BC is basicly a PS3 with a PS2 inside as well, they can emulate PS2 games using software on the PS3 (not yet at least)

One more question: Does the Eternity (?) chip on the 60GB PS3 make the games always run as smooth as if it was a PS2 (because that's basically what it is)? Because I've heard that the 80GB PS3 runs an emulator instead... So I'm guessing it might be bad at some points?

Out of my 14 PS2 games (can't seem to find the other ones), 5 games have a couple of issues. Sadly, R-Type Final is one of them, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater as well, Final Fantasy X-2 too and finally, Star Ocean 3. It's not that serious (MGS 3 runs a little bit slower apparently though), but it still sucks. :(

Also, out of my 9 PS1 games (same...), only 1 have an issue, and it's just Digimon World 2 anyway! XD

I think you're safe buying the 80 GB. With each firmware upgrade they resolve some BC issues. If a game has minor problems it'll most likely be fixed soon.

Well, I know I can find a used 60GB at my nearest video game store. So with that said, are used PS3s more reliable than used 360s (just for comparison, not trying to start a war here)?

Oh, and yeah, the new 80GB SKU comes with a Dual Shock 3... But no BC kills it.
