i really loved all the other things about the game though
Yeah same I was turned off of KH by the Disney characters, though watching friends play it, I have to say it seems like a solid, solid game. And the gummi ship seemed pretty fun to build, if not a bit gimmicky.

No. They're real-time, but not gameplay.
