Forums - Sales - Do we need an adjustment?

Dolla Dolla said:
The only console we might have to change is the 360 downward. Sony announced for the year-to-date they have sold over 1.8 million PS3's. If you take VGC's YTD for PS3 in NA and account for Canada, you'll see that ioi is on the money.

Would you please stop beating me to it?

Although, I don't believe we need to take 360 downwards.

It sold roughly 75K/month for the first 24 months in Latin America. If we assume that is sells roughly the same now, we're actually spot on.

Ps3 on the other hand, sold roughly 30K/month for the first 12 months.

That is VGChartz LONGEST review. And it's NOT Cute Kitten DS

yes they need to adjust their numbers up
it is just pathetic....i remembered vgc reported 28k PS3 units sold during a week, wtf?

The numbers will be adjusted if they are wrong. Now the only time that we know for sure that VGC numbers are wrong is when MS or Sony release they quarterly shipment reports.

So if you are waiting to wave the VGC IS WRONG flag, you'll have to wait for the actual companies shipment reports.

Yes, NPD is far more accurate and when there is such a major difference, I would trust theirs over ours

ioi has said that NPD fudges their data to make up for errors in previous months, whereas VGC goes back and corrects the actual public data. This has accounted for e.g. an apparent drop in NPD X360 and PS3 sales during GTAIV month.

ioi is suddenly some high emperor who knows alot about NPD... he must have some "insider" I guess....

Somethin like that. It's called the worldwide totals sony released for their console this year. Presumibly from NPD.

They found out their numbers were off vs shipping when the financial reports released...

and now suddenly there is a big descrepency that matches their errors and brings them up to where VGchartz had everything.

Famitsu and Media Crate do the same thing.

The only worrisome thing is the 360 numbers... but as has been said.  Ioi has a "special source" for that... which he will likely check with before making any adjustments.

The numbers have been adjusted a couple of times this year already. They might be a little off right now (and not a lot -- they're almost right in line with announced shipment/sold numbers), but they'll end up getting adjusted to be accurate if they don't agree with console manufacturer shipment numbers as announced.

Ask ioi about the details, of course, but the bottom line is that VGC data is kept up to date, even if the tracking is off (as it was with the 360 this month.

Of course we need an adjustment. We have the same two issues:

The PS3 always seems to be undertracked.

And the 360 always seems to be overtracked.

I know ithe above comments are said all the time, but after this months NPD its not even funny anymore.

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

Clearly NPD is more official than this site (and a lot more costly)... however I thought that while NPD is USA this site includes Canada, etc. as well so it should be higher.

At the end of the day they are all estimates based on data... NPD should (unless something is very wrong) just have more data sources than VGChartz. Not all retailers release their sales figures and Sony, etc. only really know what they've shipped for sure.

Mind you, and adjustment would be fun... I can imagine the noise it would cause in the forums already...

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I would take NPD's numbers for the PS3 with a large shaker of salt.

NPD no longer gets data from Toys R Us.  This generation, Toys R Us is not pushing the PS3 (if you don't beleive me, go into a store and you will see how limited and how poor the display space is for a PS3. The PS2 still has more game display space in many stores). So if NPD is using older sales patterns for the toy retailer to predict current sales, it may be off by a large margin on Sony's new console.

So true. They have the ps3 at just over 10 million and the wii at just over 22 milllion. Somehow they are very close with the 360 which they have at 19.78 million. This site is definately more balanced. So even though we may not have it all our way it could be much worse

Yea, I think we do, even if just a little bit.. Ignoring NPD data completly will harm this site greatly.
