Forums - Gaming - King of RPGs...360 or PS3?

The OP is blinded by his fanboyism. Thinking PS3 will get more RPG support than the Wii is atrocious to say the least. Most of the RPGs that are getting released on the PS3 are either multiplat western RPGs or games that were planned before Wii became successful. I doubt there are many PS3 JRPG's in development at the moment, while there are many recently announced Wii RPG's. The games will continue to get announced for Wii, for example MH3 was converted from a PS3 exclusive to a Wii exclusive.

The only company I think will develop decent JRPG's for the PS3 will be SE, since they won't develop for the Wii.

360 is getting moneyhatted support, but developers know 360 is not a viable console for JRPGs, so things will no doubt change in favour of the Wii.

WRPGs and MMORPGs will no doubt go to the HD consoles specially 360, but thinking either will be the JRPG king is crazy.

360 no doubt

No one is king, It's a matter of taste... For instance on the JRPG side neither IU, ToV or SO4 are that appealing to me as WKC... But that's because 1. Level-5 is one of my favorite developers, 2. I saw the gameplay previews and they're impressive, 3. The graphics look even better than the FFXIII and vsXIII ones, and that's saying much... I hope they show more on this year's TGS, along with XIII and vsXIII...

Now, that doesn't mean i don't like the 3 360 titles, i've seen the previews and they look cool, for now the one that i like the most is IU...

Wow, when will you people learn that just because a system has a larger current userbase does not mean every genre will sell for it. Wii is casual. Casual games are games that can be easily picked up and put back down. RPGs are time consuming games that require hours to be put in to get anywhere. RPGs are NOT casual. Wii is casual system that is marketed to CASUAL GAMERS. RPGs are for the hardcore. In conclusion RPGs are not for Wii!

Nintendo has lost success with RPGs ever since the main FF series left them. That title then went to PS. I find that Xbox has been a shoe in for WRPGs as some really good ones came into fruition in the XBox's life. JRPG rained dominent on Sony's console still.

Every JRPG on 360 has not sold more then a Million(untill Tales, i dont know if it mast 1mil yet but it might)

The one shared JRPG on the PS3 sold more on it then it did on the system it was ported on. (as BAD as Enchanted Arms was it sold PS3:0.15mil and 360:0.14 mil) This gives me the impression that the JRPG fanbase still lies with SONY.

Oblivion, an WRPG, was on 360 first then went to PS3. PS3 sold around 1mil, and 360 at 2.5mil. late ports tend to decrease in sales from its initial release platform. If the release was identical I assume the numbers would have been a whole lot closer.

The simple fact of the matter is the PS3 lacks any really good JRPGs, hence the reason you cannot see it's apparent dominence in this field.

Uh dude. Dragons Quest Swords was way more successful then expected... and it's outsold every "rpg" on the PS3.

It was a bland Spinoff of a Spinoff on rails hack N slash RPG.

Wow are u blind? Dragon Quest did NOT do that well AT ALL! look at the darn chart! And the RPG genre is strongest for JRPGs which THE PS# HAS NONE OF SO FAR! The only RPG's period that are on the sytem right now are ports from the 360 so OF COURSE they have not sold that much...

Dude all you are showing is that you have no idea what Dragon Quest: Swords is, or is about.

500K for that game is amazing.

It's a spinoff... not even a spinoff of Dragon's Quest, but a Spinoff of a Spinoff of Dragon Quest.

It's a spinoff of a similar arcade style game that was somewhat popular in japan.

Also, it had a metacritic score of 66.

That game sold amazingly well.

Also the RPG genre is strongest in JRPGs? Uh... no. JRPGs have very little appeal outside of japan. WRPGs have a MUCH bigger market.

The only RPGs that buck this trend are Final Fantasy which is helped by all the hype and giant marketing budgets, and pokemon which is helped by it's universal appeal and pokemon cuteness.

Both of course also helped by brand awareness too.

A new IP WRPG is going to probably destroy a new IP JRPG in sales.

Name one WRPG that can sell on par with FF,DQ,Pokemon,Kingdom Hearts,Tales, etc?

and 500k sales is good?for a system with double the userbase of its competition? riiiiiiiiiiggggghhht. So I geuss Haze is a good game too then right? right?

That is not good, good would be AT LEAST making it to 1mil. Thats a good game.

and a score of 66? you tout this as good?

I dont even know why we are talking about this, this thread is on the better line up of 360/PS3 games not Wii.

I am done........

*head spins*

You managed to talk about all of Kasz's points without actually countering any of them.

Bravo, I guess.

Yeah... it's pretty funny.

He didn't even seem to get the point that the poor review scores would be an indication of why the game sold "poorly".

Even though... it didn't... it actually sold above expectations i believe... the game cost little.

He's in fanboy overdrive mode though to the point of where he can't decide which is better... the game sucking, or the game not selling well... so he claims both. (Despite the fact that is was neither.)

As for why the Wii is relevent. Forever you said "Which is King of the RPGs."

If someones response was "Neither" you would have to think someone would need to come up with a third alternative.

What would be your response if I made a new thread...

"Best console this generation.... Wii or 360?" (Note to other forum goers this is the way to handle things like this... not by starting another useless copy thread.)

Actually counter a point, and i'll respond... don't start more FUD when you can't even defend the arguements you've already made.

Also... if Wii is so casual....

Why does the Wii have more owners then the PS2 at this time, while the PS3 has about as many users as the gamecube at this time.

What hapened to all of those people who bought JRPGs?

Do they not just exist anymore?

Or is it more likely to assume... most of the people in Japan who have PS2s that don't own Ps3s, who had bought a system by this time last generation... are the same people who bought Wiis?

Those same people that were giving Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy games such huge sales on the Playstation systems.... and actually the Nintendo systems before it.

The "Casual" base is just a myth. The Wii brings in an extended audience, but that extended audience is not the majority of the userbase.

People aren't likely to change their adoption habits.  The same people who bought a system by this time last generation, have likely bought a system this time around as well.

These people have mostly gone over to the Wii.

@rocketpig and @kazs216

wow im not gonna get to deep into it with you two becuz ur obviously impossible to communicate with , but if u think 500,000 copy sales for DQ is good for god knows how long its been out and with the potential of its audience

u guys are in denial

By the end of the generation, I would say that there is 90% that the list goes:

Xbox 360 > Wii > PS3

because Wii will get more support from the Japanese publishers and most of PS3's RPG are on Xbox 260 already.

Oh and the story in FFX was really bad. It started great but the fact that you can know what is the end boss 10 hours into the story made the story a bit more too predictable for my taste. Also, the character that turns evil was way to easy to guess.

Agree with everything in this post; FFX bashing included.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I'd find that complaint about FFX a bit more worthwhile if it weren't for the fact that you "know" what the final boss of FFVII is like 5 hours into the game.

And besides, there is a crapload more complaint-worthy stuff about FFX than that.
