Forums - Nintendo - Anyone remeber when everyone said WII was a fad

No matter what everyone says, Nintendo is making a ton of money on the WII (because they made money on console 1 they sold) and its selling very well

PS3, WII and 360 all great systems depends on what type of console player you are.

Currently playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, Fallout 3, Halo ODST and Dragon Age Origins is next game

I still think it's a fad.
Even if it sells 10 million a week there is no games on it I want to play.

Yea, it's a fad because there's no games you want to play on it. Totally related and relevant.

So why are the latest ads for wii fit showing an elderly couple trying wii fit.

She is practising yoga or something.

She turns to her husband with her hand on her back and says thats much better.

wtf is it exactly a gaming console or keep fit machine for oap's.

Why in heavens name would that interest me.

So you judge your games and consoles by 1. the ads and 2. the other people who play them...

Wow.  That's truly a good way to live your life.

1. Is the ad good?

2. Are people doing it cool?

I do go a little by are my FRIENDS playing that console, most of my friends play 360 and we have a wed night game so that obvsiouly would make me lean towards that system

Thanks, I forgot peer pressure.

How is that peer pressure, I am 38 so peer pressure really dosent exhist at my age...lol  What I mean is they all go online and play say r62 on 360 I could buy a PS3 they wouldnt care just couldnt be able to play with them.  Also I borrow games from them so it helps if we have the same system.  Most of my friends own multiple to be honest, I notice though for Multiplayer games we all play the 360.  Just facors in to what you buy.

If you consider the definition for fad like "A fashion that is taken up with great enthusiasm for a brief period of time; a craze." then you can easily consider all dominant consoles of their generation to have been fads ... The height of most console's popularity is only (about) 5 or 6 years, and after that a new system will come along and be adopted very rapidly and achieve similar heights of popularity.

Saying 'the Wii is a fad' as a negative towards the system only really demonstrates a misunderstanding of the gaming market and what a fad is.

Now, as for the calls about third party publishers 'commiting financial suicide' as Kenny put it ... what I think we have seen is many publishers are having difficulty adjusting to a market that did not turn out the way that they expected. Part of the problems they have is the difference in performance makes it difficult to switch the target platform of games mid development like they would have done in the past, and another part is that what makes for an interesting Wii game is different than what makes for an intersting PS3/XBox 360 game.

My point been what is it exactly.
Why would i want to keep fit on a console.
As I said originally it holds no interest for me as a gaming console.

btw my daughter got the wii for xmas.

I took the batteries out of the controller some weeks ago so they would'nt leak.

Thats how much the wii is used in my house.

It's a joke.

3 steps to make sure your doing the right thing.

Ads, coolness, peers.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

When everyone said the Wii was a fad? That was last week. Even if the Wii sell 200 million, analysts will say that it is in a different market.

With the Wii lineup as of now, they are right..

Xen you really should change your sig. If there is one thing that isn't true, it's that you are a nintendo supporter.

Just because he doesnt like the lineup so far does NOT mean he doesnt like nintendo.. i mean what do they have coming out in fall Animal crossing? ill pass big time in favor of resistance 2, Socom, LBP, Tomb raider, motorstorm, Banjo (if good)  and other great games coming out for ps3/360

Anyway i agree i havent bought i wii game in a while and that prolly wont change till 2009.

I still don't understand why people always argue PS3+360 vs. Wii...

And Tomb Raider is on Wii, too.

And I'll pass on those games you listed in favor of de Blob and Tales of Symphonia. Nintendo is not the only developer for the Wii. People should stop going by E3...

You should bring your Wii and your daughter to Gamestop and trade it in and let her buy five to ten games for another console then, and then somebody else who is dying to get one can.

@Xen: US isn't the only market (exept for 360 it soon starts to look it is), but the point was, where you made the price comment, that the sales difference isn't because of the price, since other markets prove that the 2 consoles that are more expensive sell better.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I would (generally) ignore comments like that on web forums ...

They are part of the paradox where every "Hard-Core" Wii owner isn't buying games and their Wii system is collecting dust, while "Casual" gamers never buy games and only play Wii Sports, yet the Wii is selling (roughly) as much software per system-month as the XBox 360/PS3 are. I'm not saying that these people are lying about what they see, but I do believe that their experience is not representitive of the market as a whole; quite possibly reask's problem is that he didn't buy games that really interested his daughter.
