The U.S. is attempting to set up a nuclear missile shield base in Poland. Russia assumes (rightly or wrongly... most likely rightly) that the purpose is to allow the United States to free itself of MAD (mutually assured destruction) in case of a Nuclear arms engagement with Russia. The logical step for Russia would be to consider the equipment in such a defensive system to be a fair target regardless of what country it's in. And since the system is primarily for the purpose of a Nuclear arms exchange, they'll already be flying, so that very well might be what Russia is firing at those targets.

It's monstrous and insane, but that's the nature of the beast, not Russia's response to it.

The real lesson here is that we desperately need to reinstate the priority of nuclear disarmament to both the collective conscience and the highest political levels.

There's only one response to a post like that:

"Of course, the whole point of a Doomsday Machine is lost, if you *keep* it a *secret*! Why didn't you tell the world, EH?"

And hide our stock pile from the world... just like all the other countries will.

^^ Thank you, stof. First reasonable post by a mod in this thread.

Russia won't ever nuke Poland, but the VGChartz Fox News Anchor Man (the strange guy with the Bioshock avatar) loves nuking the off-topic section with "meaningful political" threads and watching members' reactions.

Yeah, pretty much. Nuclear weapons are here to stay (until something newer and more devastating is found, that is). Everyone will be too afraid that someone else isn't playing fair and keeps a stockpile, which will cause everyone to keep a stockpile.

Even so, getting the number of weapons out there way down from their current number is in everyone's interest.

Some of you guys are biased. You think the US wouldn't retalitate somehow if Russia decided to put a few nukes in Canada? The US is the most aggressive nation in the world. They are on everyone else's soil yet they would never let anyone put weapons remotely close to them.

umm... Iran and North Korea say hi.

OT: This is not good. When people start talking about using nukes, it's time to get really nervous

At least in the last 30 or so years they haven't been near as aggressive as the US has...

Just curious but other than Iraq, what aggressive military moves has the United States made? That 30 year comment is pretty vague.

Yes, how could I have missed it, the only reasonable conclusion is that the US is to blame.  How dare we invent and implement technology to ensure our survival in the event that some psycho tries to nuke us.  Its not at all creepy that Russia is worried about no longer being able to nuke the US.  Clearly Russia is innocent, those poor poor people.

To Each Man, Responsibility

The Russians have a point to make methinks.
They have been wathing there influence on the world stage been whittled away.
Lets hope calm heads prevail on all sides.
This is in no ones interest.

can i see the source, please?

@Sqrl, so stof blamed the USA and I confirmed it, hm? You missed...ah, whatever.

It's funny how easily the notorious starter of these threads always gets exacty what he wants: Controverse reactions (he managed it even with this completely redundant news).
