Forums - Sales - Famitsu: Wii has the highest attach ratio of any console since 96' in Japan

So what was the console in 1996 with a higher attack ratio? PS1?

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

Yeah it must have been.  It certainly wasn't the N64.  I suppose it could have been the Gameboy Color but I doubt it.

Aye robjoh, thanks for the clarification. What I meant is that the Wii's attach rate would be even higher if there was stronger software support. The top 20 is really dominated by the DS, with the Wii not really differentiating as much from the other competitors on the list.

The DS has 7-8 times teh install base in Japan. Though it is slowly decreasing so 3 titles out of 15 or 1/5 of all nintendo games sounds about right and actually very good.

Consoles only I believe so no hand helds or the DS has a higher attach ratio anyway.

Actually it says platforms, so I'm sure they are including the DS.  All it means is that it's selling more games per Wii sold than games per DS sold.  I could see that being the case with the limited supply of Wiis and the very high demand for Wii content.

Umm. The Wii doesn't have a very good software attach ratio. It's still under 2.5. I fail to see how this is "the highest ever for a console since 1996".

The Wii sold ~ 400k software units and ~270k hardware units that's 1.48 software units per Wii Sold. Thats NOT good. Either MC is pulling out some sort of insane numbers that no one is seeing, or something I'm just not seeing. Even the 360 had an attach ratio of 2.0+ at this point in its life there.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.

Especially when you consider that some DS's may be resales to people who own the regular ds + DS Lite.

Doing the math real quickly, the VG Charts attach ratio for each console up to the 24th is as follows:

DS: 70,605,430 / 17,853,898 = 3.9546
Wii: 6,644,098 / 2,838,463 = 2.34
PS2: 119,653,734 / 21,899,940 = 5.46
PS3: 1,389,589 / 974,023 = 1.4
PSP: 11,326,678 / 5,672,694 = 1.997
X360: 1,348,488 / 408,449 = 3.301
GBA: 47,639,200 / 16,687,111 = 2.855

Okay, based on that... the X360 has a better attach ratio than the Wii and the PS2 has a huge ratio...

So what metric they used is beyond me.

As has been pointed out, they said platforms, so if it was just about that month, then the DS wins. If its in its lifetime... the Wii isn't winning that either.

Stickball I was waiting for your comment on this...

My theory is they are talking about software 30 weeks into the console's life:

Wii Play + Wii Sports = 1.0 to 1.25 attach ratio

Everything else (Zelda/Fire Emblem/Wario/One Piece/Pokemon/Excite Truck) adds around 1 units of software/hardware.

360 has no title to sell over 200k lifetime as far as I know, so no title amounts to more than a ~.5 attachment rate.  If hardware sales were higher, this would be an ideal environment for 3rd parties, but in raw unit sale.

PS3 has the lowest tie ratios..

Looking back at N64, Mario 64 was huge..then...not much until Mario Kart 64

PS1 started in 1994 so it doesn't count, DC and Xbox bombed...

PS2 had stronger hardware sales, so despite comparable software, the tie ratio is weaker than Wii.

That is my best bet at an explination for Famitsu's claim, although I agree the tie ratios are weak.

It sounds like they're comparing the Wii's cumulative attach ratio right now to what every other platform was after the same amount of time (7.5-8 months).
