LOL SSHD is NOT a good shooter? Wow, take off ur goggles fanboy! Nobody said it was better than the "holy grail" geometry wars like u 360 fanboys make it seem like it is, but saying that it's not a "good shooter" is just blind fanboyism.

Hahaha, I didn't even mention Geometry Wars and you start shitting bricks.

Both games are decent shooters, but neither is great. I prefer GW because its actually a bit interesting and has some challenge, while SSHD is pretty generic and easy.

Neither game can touch anything that cave has put out in the past 5 years.

Will people PLEASE stop throwing aroung the word "Generic". You most likely don't even Know what its full meaning is >_> OT: The Irony is hilarious and the 360 spin ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ is even more hilarious from MDF

Lets see...

Asteroids clone - mang, that hasn't been done a million times before. Especially in the past 3 years.

3 types of fire and 3 types of enemies - talk about original.

Neverending wave of the same kinds of asteroids/enemies. Talk about originality.

The game reuses bosses. Speaking of which the game has no real mini-bosses, or really anything beyond colliding asteroids and some mildly annoying enemies. Like I've said before, this game is a fucking cake-walk even on the higher difficulties.

Fucked up hitbox. What the hell is the point of making this smaller as the level progress. Oh, right, its to make the game easier while screwing with what the player has already gotten used to.

The odd part about this game is all the stuff thats been a staple of shmups for over a decade isn't present;

No bullet eating mode? Well thats understandable since this game is just a pretty version of asteroids.

No way to combo/chain of scores? Why the fuck wasn't this included? Do they have a thing against adding some strategy and skill to a game.

No multistage bosses? Oh, right, that might make things hard yet entertaining.

No suicide bullets? Oh, right, again with the challenge thing.

I realize that this is a remake of some Amiga game that lost what little relevance it had ages ago. Still, you would think that they'd at least try to add in some of the current staples of the genre. Now I don't have anything against a game trying to duplicate an 'old school' type of experience, but that only works when the core gameplay shines. SSHD is a very dated game with jazzy graphics that can't make up for the boring gameplay.

One last thing - feel free to call me a member of the MDF even though I think Everyday Shooter is fantastic. In fact its probably my favorite downloadable title after Braid. The 360 does have a far better catalog of shooters at this point, but most of its remakes. This may change when Treasure releases they're new game on it, but until then the DC is still the place to get great shumps for good prices. The PC also has a plethora of great doujin shooters, and emulators are always an option.

Look, I wasn't defending the game, nor attacking your post, its just im sick and Tired of people writing generic all the time. I Should not have questioned that you didn't know the full meaning I just went off on 1. Also I didnt say you were MDF i ment people up higher in the thread

I have to pitch in and say that as a long-time X360 and PS3 owner... I've downloaded way more games from PSN than I ever have from XBL. Geometry Wars rocks, and I scored Braid (although I'm not sure it was worth the $$... I regret buying it much like I regret buying Elefunk. Both decent... neither worth the fee.)... beyond that I pretty much have to pitch in with the PSN fans.

I even buy cross-platform games on the PS3... but of course I have a 320GB HDD and I prefer the PS3 controller, so that's sorta an unfair comparison.

PSN does have better content available digitally than XBL does (this is nothing more than my opinion, however)... and it is ironic that MS talks up how they want to go for digital content in a big way... yet PSN is taking the first steps to having substantial titles (meaning retail-scale) available. The fact that PSN has large titles, like Warhawk, GT5:P, Siren, and now Burnout Paradise available is a sincere step toward serious digital distribution that XBLA has not matched, in any form. There are more on the horizon as well (SOCOM: Confrontation, Ratchet&Clank:QfB, etc...). I don't see any such major titles coming down the XBLA road.

Why not? Where is the MS talk about "future digital distribution" bearing fruit, relative to Sony's work with PSN?

There have been some good titles on XBLA, just like PSN... but I don't see anything major there at this time -- just hot air from the MS execs. This isn't really something that can just be denied. PSN is definately improving in areas XBLA hasn't even touched upon (yet, despite all the talk).

It all boils back down to the issue of HDD space, something that is user scalable on the PS3, but not on the Xbox.

The fact of the matter is, the vast majority of all 360s in circulation (those that even have a HDD) are 20GB drives, woefully inadequate for heavy digital distribution purchases beyond "arcade" sized games.

And I do make the distinction of word purchase, as overall storage space is slightly less of an issue if most content on a drive is time sensitive data/files that will be deleted shortly after the initial use.

But digital distro of DVD sized games simply isn't a genuinely viable alternative option for most 360 owners. The lack of original Xbox games on XBL following their introduction to the service only supports this notion. Maybe they're just not selling well (not surprising, considering the games can be bought for less, on DVD), but is anyone arguing that this once heralded addition to XBL is something that has definitely been moved to a back burner?

Marketing full sized games only to 120GB HDD owners seems like a poor strategy considering that they comprise a minority percentage of the overall 360 market.

It's ultimately an issue of consumer choice. Which platform offers the consumer the choices he or she wants most. Most people like hard media, whether it be for movies or games. When the issue of drive space becomes moot, digital distro for games becomes a legitimate alternative.

Um, I think that Microsoft would jump at the chance to push more people to buy their overpriced HDDs.  Come on Microsoft, sell me a 250 GB HDD for $300 please.

Exactly.

That's the crux of their entire pricing scheme.

Drive space was the key difference between the $299 Core and the $399 Premium (wireless controller/game save advantage later deleted)

It was also the key difference between the $349 Pro and the $449 Elite (HDMI port advantage later deleted).

But it will be extremely difficult to convince all but a handful percentage of consumers that a HDD, regardless of capacity should be priced in the same range as the console itself.
