Forums - Sales - The Official July NPD Thread (data for 4 weeks ending 8/2 comes @ 6:30 est)

Where are the 360 fanboys? They seem to be more present on this website lately. I have yet to see one respond to that.

How many cups of darkness have I drank over the years? Even I don't know...

shit, looks like nothing can help the 360 at the moment. its reaching a dead end. maybe all the previous xbox owners have a 360 now? anyway i knew ps3 was going to outsell the 360 this month. next month should be good too, if the new 80GB bundle is in full force, sony should also stick some MGS4 80gig bundles alongside the new model which will get good sales next month. that rumoured xbox price drop is the last chance microsoft have of stopping sony!

Admit what mistake!? VGChartz is an independent sales tracking site, and although NPD has more resources when it comes to tracking sales, they could be just as off and we won't ever know. VGChartz isn't here to simply parrot NPD.

Asking VGChartz to admit to a "mistake", is like saying Famitsu should admit it made a mistake each time it isn't in tandem with Media Create.

VGC is not a professional tracking site. Trends and common sense make A LOT in determining weekly numbers.
But that's not important in my opinion because I think that the strength of this site is not in the accuracy on a weekly on monthly basis (that's a plus) but in the HUGE database they offer freely with updated and accurate LTD numbers both hardware and software.
This is why I want them to correct what is obviously wrong (360 doing great after the price cut on the 20GB model), because I want the site to continue being reliable on LTD numbers. The biggest disappointment for me would be seeing this site sticking with wrong numbers for stupid pride reasons.

Great numbers for the Xbox360. Im concerned about the PS3 though... it seems like its sales are dying, price cut ftw?

The Wii did terribly as always,

Tease.

The Wii did terribly as always, <50% of either the PS/360 totals - fads obviously blown over completely.

I laughed.

Your sig needs some changing.

X360 was supply constrained they had to send X360's to Japan and if you don't believe this I will try a other lie to convince you :).

This makes me laugh so hard. That means the numbers posted on the main page are totally off.

stop trolling, the numbers are fine (+/- 10% for all consoles)

Not that I agree with him, which I don´t but, for example:

VCG - PS3 - 180k

NPD = PS3 - 225k

45k difference - 45/180 = 0.25 = 25% off

PSP has more than a 10% difference too. I´m too lazy to do the others, so I´mjust gonna end it here. :D

There we go!

I needed some spin here.

Since the 360 launched, I always wondered whether MS would be able to expand their market beyond the original Xbox's. This entire year has seemed to show that the system is struggling at best to reach a greater fanbase.

It's probably going to pass the originals LTD shipment numbers this year. At least a full year ahead of the orginal as well. That point is pretty much moot as it is going to pass it by a great deal in fact.

to be fair to vgchartz, they never really made a mistake, as they state the numbers are ESTIMATES. which basically means the numbers are bullshit and probably way way off! lol. its true though!
