meh, I don't care about over/under as compared to npd. They are only estimating as much as vgc is. You guys would be jumping all for vgc if the numbers were showing PS3 leading here and losing on NPD.

What I do care about is that ps3+360 < Wii. :)

Wii on to 50%!

seriously, shut up. You don't know what you're talking about.

Are you serious you little sob, let's look through our post histories to see who knows what they are talking about.

@you and leo-j

What the hell do you two think the entire idea of statistics and sales counting is? Estimation. Its all about getting as much "real" info you can and from that estimating out the remainder of the potential sales. Only difference is NPD has a bigger chunk of the "real" numbers and therefore has a good chance of being closer to reality. But, their estimation is still quite large as they don't have some of the biggest retailers, like Walmart. They could easily be off as much as VGC.

Do you all fail to forget last xmas when NPD's total sales were way too low for reasonable sales based on what the manufactures stated they shipped? Whereas VGC was pretty much right on with expectations? You all are just being fanboys and going with the answer that best fits your dreams.

As far as I'm concerned PS360 were equal last month and Wii destroyed them both combined.

So true, this is what matters here. What most people, developers and publishers are going to see is that the Wii once again beat them combined... with a nice representation in SW sales too, including a 170$ 3rd party game that was released late

The wii sells to extreme casuals.  Games like Rock Band, Guitar Hero, etc.  Will sell in HUGE numbers.  However, games like GTA- Pshhhhhhhh.

Guessing from NPD numbers, it's more likely that PS3 outsold the 360 worldwide in July too.

Yup.

Which would also mean that PS3 has actually won 41 weeks in a row.

;)

And leo-j's prediction would be right.

And PS3's market share would be 22.6 percent or so.

I´m bacl. Glad no one noticed. :D

I would really like to hear from either TheSource or ioi. Though TheSource must me writing the news story to post about NPD.

But why there is always a big difference to NPD when it comes to 360, but not so much all the others?

I can see one thing for certain, once the Wii secures that 50% marketshare, all the devs are going to have to buckle under the pressure of the market leader stability.

I expect that studios are going to start making ground-up Wii games instead of scalred down ports from the HD consoles, and it will also be the end of PS2 ports. Just like how 3rd party development buckled to the pressure of the DS by the start of the 3rd year, the time for 3rd party support for the Wii is arriving and will carry the system to a place untouchable by any other consoles.

That makes zero sense. Third parties are more likely to make games on the HD consoles and than scale down. This will just mean more Wii games. New GTA coming out? It'll have a Wii port. New RE coming out? It'll have a Wii port. The casuals still haven't proven to buy in numbers that the hardcore have for third party games.

You apparently aren't versed in development, which is okay. It is more lucrative for a company to build an engine specific for the hardware they're supporting than it is to outsocurce modelers to revamp textures, character models, levels, weapons, etc. Engines = money through licensing. With the Wii getting into a position of ruling 50% of the current gen hardware, it brings more developer interest. More available engines and engines that can be licensed means for games that are more fluid and easier to design for that hardware. A 50% mark is a solid indicator of a no-fail market for a developer and publisher, unless of course they put out shovelware.

More time will be taken to make a better quality game, and they will allocate more team members and resources than just a skeleton team for porting a game. This is normal procedure since the advent of 3D gaming. Instead of trying to glean a quick buck, devs are going to work to establish themselves for the market leading console, again just as was done for the DS.
