Solid Snake is the only real mascot for Sony this gen IMHO.

Getting an XBOX One for me is like being in a bad relationship but staying together because we have kids. XBone we have 20000+ achievement points, 2+ years of XBL Gold and 20000+ MS points. I think its best we stay together if only for the MS points.

Nintendo Treehouse is what happens when a publisher is confident and proud of its games and doesn't need to show CGI lies for five minutes.

Sackboy tennis, sackboy b ball, sackboy brawl, sackboy racing, sackboy portable, ETC ETC ETC. It's a great move and WILL give sony the boost it needs to get some massive sales.

While thats true, Snakes series was taken from Nintendo by Sony and many cannot see Sony without him. A mascot exemplifies those things. People cannot see Sony without hot 3rd party titles in the forefront. Look at what happened when FFXIII went multiplat. People went fugging nuts. If LBP went multiplat no one would care right now. When FFXIII went multiplat on the 360 it shook the PS3 fanboys world, because thats one of the top two titles Sony ever had. The FF series and the GTA series and now exclusivity to both of them are gone. When most people think of PS3 in the next couple of years, they will not be thinking LBP. The will STILL be thinking of more important games.

Just imagine if they had made a dragon from Lair into their official mascot.

I mean, we all have great hopes for LBP but it could still suck in the end. People thought Lair was going to be great, too.

 

LBP might not be a huge commercial success like Galaxy, but its not going to be seen as a failure even if it only sells a million or two copies. This isn't a game like Lair that's been shrouded in secrecy. The game is based on a simple premise: level creation through physics based tools. People have played with it a ton and it's proven that the premise succeeds, whereas few people got to play Lair and they all said the controls were shoddy.

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Well, my sister thinks he's cute. and she's 29.... hardly a gamer. I think sackboy has tremendous potential as the PS3's mascot. I have yet to find someone (in RL) who doesn't think he's cute. Regardless of whether LBP "saves" the PS3 or not, I think sackboy will be accepted by the public as the PS3 mascot. Sony won't have to "force" him on them.

 

Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh on the sackboy, it just seems like an awkwards attempt to find an identity for the PS3.
