Forums - Nintendo - Did Nintendo Screw Lucasarts with Wii motion plus?

Wow. That little comment section on that thing is full of people who hate Nintendo's practices. I'd like to see how they would handle the best of VGChartz Nintendo enthusiasts. It wouldn't be pretty. However, there is no reason to talk to idiots if those idiots won't listen.

But one thing someone said that I found interesting was:

"Nintendo considers their 3rd-party business partners as competition.........."

Think about that for a while.

We could have a "VGChartz invades Kotaku day".... just wait until a story appears and go tell them how stupid they sound (doesn't really matter bout the story content as it seems most of them have awful comments sections)

Next year:

Clone Wars 2

Currently Playing:

Wii: Mario Kart Wii, Wii Sports Resort

Xbox360: Fifa 2009, Halflife 2 Episode 2
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Want to play:
Wii: Lego Indiana Jones, SMG2
Xbox360: MW2

On one hand I'm totally pissed at how Nintendo kept WiiMotionPlus all to themselves and then just surprised 3rd parties with the announcement at E3. Why? Because I'll end up skipping a lot of 3rd party games now I may have otherwise bought knowing a better one with WM+ will be coming.

Clone Wars is one of the casualities, but Tiger Woods 09 is another.

On the flip side, I highly doubt the majority of Wii buyers are even remotely aware of WM+ and that goes double for Clone Wars purchasers who are likely mostly kids anyway.

So now LA can do a real Lightsaber/force duel game with 16 player online 'Jedi Wars' -- Oh, nice name actually, trademark pending...

Didn't Ubi know about it?

LOL If I were Lucasarts I would kill them. They make one of the biggest third-party games for the Wii which bases its Wii appeal on realistic lightsaber fights and Nintendo doesn't tell them about WiiMotion? Between Wii Music and this I think Nintendo is loosing its grip on reality a bit. At the moment they crush everything but if they get their heads in the clouds too much the fight might get interesting again.

wow, trying a little too hard here aren't we? If you force it this much people are going be able to tell you're trolling. You need to be more subtle.

Considering the only solution that would result in no one being angry is Nintendo having not bothered with Wii Motion Plus in the first place, I think this is just an unfortune matter of circumstance. Though I'm sure you'll insist that the Wii should have had this from the begining, because you're in a position to decide whether that was a realistic possibility or not.

Did they screw them? No. I doubt they would even want to (although they might but I don't know enough about Nintendo history to be sure).

Should they have shared the info earlier with developers working on such titles? Yes - particularly one's making extensive use of accurate motion controls like this title is seeking to.

Still, apparently everyone can by a PS3 and EyeToy and get 1 to 1 tracking in a sword fighting game this holiday season so there you go...

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

@Reasonable: But that has to be BC model.

As far as i understood, Nintendo shared the info earlier with the devs who could implement it for their games still in time. I'm assuming here, that the M+ has been finished just before E3 to respond the rumoured 1:1 PS360 motion controllers.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

I'm still amazed people are playing the same damn story from 31 years ago ;) Hell, you can't even blame Nintendo for milking their franchises that bad =D

Yet, I'm sure that every balding 40 yr old wants to do 1:1 lightsaber battles. I'm sure LA will pick up the pace and make it happen with the new tech, regardless of the 2 games announced by them.

Many developers probably felt left outside the loop at the very least.

Even if the M+ control system was in its preliminary stages of development, a heads up would have been a bit more than just a courtesy call to third parties.

just stated above that most developers WERE informed just before E3.   Nintendo only inked the licensing rights just a few weeks prior to E3 itself.   You don't go around telling people about a new peripheral that you don't have the rights to yet.

I think they kinda did screw LA over - fact is Nintendo needed to give third parties space on the Wii if they want support to gather momentum but they also needed system sellers for this holiday.

If I were Nintendo I woul have been releasing the Wii Motion plus this year and offered LA a chance to have it bundled with Clone Wars for the holidays then release Wii Sports Resort next year with it bundled again to make sure you're attacking 2 demographs with this new hardware.

This is why I would also bundle the Balance Board in with Shaun Whytes Snowboarding as well if it were down to me though.

Read above.

Also, Nintendo can't release the peripheral this year because manufacturing, distribution, retail, software, etc...won't be ready for it.

Can you can your hate for 5 minutes?   It wouldn't matter if Nintendo told LA or not because by the time the SDK is finalized and shipped to them their game will have gone into Q&A making it far too late to implement.   Not to forget the game is already on a devepment schedule making delays costly and the peripheral won't even be out for several months past the games launch.

Read my posts above.  All the developers with games in the pipeline on the same or later timeline as the release of WM+ were informed.   Developers who would not have time to implement the peripheral found out at E3.

Yes, they did.  As did EA, Activision, THQ, Sega, SE, Capcom, Konami, Namco and many others.

The rEVOLution is not being televised

you know, this is the third article i've seen about LA being "pissed" and not a single one of them contain any quotes from LA. Just a statment of LA wanting to make a lightsaber game....translating that to "LA is totally pissed" seems to take a lot of liberties imo.
