"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

A cheaper way to create realistic graphics is bad now?

The reason going HD and uber-high detail was bad is because it costs a stupid amount of money, time and resources to make the models for it.... Hence it taking a day or something just to make a headlight on a car in GT5.

This new method can just photograph said objects and import them into the game.... it's like a 3D scanner that can also scan motion.

Of course at the moment it is probably more expensive due to the cost of setting it up, but that cost can be reduced, whereas having to make all the models was getting more expensive as more detail was added.

The closer we get to 1:1 graphics the more i'm starting to dislike it.

Complete realism you mean?

Trust me, when that becomes a valid possibility, it won't be the only thing in the gaming market.

I'm sure uber-realism will be the most popular thing to try to do when that does become valid, but there will still be abstract or non-realistic games.  This simply opens up a ton of options.

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
