Forums - Nintendo - Did you skip the Metroid Prime series because it was First-Person?

I didnt really mean the Wiimote by that. I mean new engines and all that good stuff.

Any game I think can work well in Third-Person. The development team just needs to do it right. Thats basically what Im saying.

Good enough engines to build a 3D Metroid in third person view were already available during the 6th generation of consoles. Today's engines really aren't that different to the ones from five years ago, save for physics. *EDIT: That's in regards to effects on gameplay.*

Your entire argument is "I want third person view, because I don't like first person view". So far you haven't pointed out a single gameplay element of Metroid that would work better in third person view. All you say is that it's up to developers to make things work.

Because thats who it comes down to. Im not gonna make the game and the hell do I know how a Third-Person Metroid should play. Ive never played Metroid enough to tell you that.

If all the First-Person elements dont work in the Third-Person than throw them out the window and start from scratch and build something for Third-Person.

@Sam Yikin
Exactly! I think people are confused for what I was saying. Some think I want prime to be third-person. Thats not what I want. In my reply to Viper1 I say it. Prime is what it is. Id like a new Metroid to be in 3rd person.

@quigontcb
*sigh* I dont care what other people think which is why game reviews hardly mean anything. Some games I love people think are terrible. Its all an opinion.

You REALLY should at least try Prime, though. You can't judge a game based solely it's perspective (IE first person, third person etc). Try and and make your own opinion. It's not like its a huge investment, I got it at GameStop for $6.

I did actually play some Corruption but didnt like it. I only played a little bit but everything was so clunky. Maybe I just didnt have enough time with it.
If I find Prime at a bargain bin I might. Im not paying for Corruption though. Used are still $40

btw my gamestop had ALOT of used MP3 guess people didnt like it.

Your argument has been blown out of the water in this thread. Maybe it's time to save some face and let it go. But before I go, let me have another go at it...

Throw everything first person out of the window just to make a game in a third person perspective? Why not make the best game you can instead? Maybe I should go to Honda and tell them I want them to make me a car with 3 wheels. "I don't care if you say 4 wheels work better! Stop the production line and make me a 3 wheeled Honda car....just because!"

Reviews are relative, but they are meant to inform. Kind of like how you informed us you pretty much won't play a game that's first person. The difference is, any reviewer worth their salt will give valid reasons for any qualms they have. You haven't given any valid reason, other than just because. Simply saying "I would prefer the Metroid games in third person" is one thing, but saying "Throw everything that works so well out the window so you can make it in third person" is just asking for scrutiny and a thrashing.

To be honest, I didn't enjoy corruption as as much as I thought I did. The Wii controls prompted the developers to add many more FPS elements to the game, such as more action-oriented parts, (sorry about that its 2 in the morning here) attempts at more alive "world", that overall detracted from the traditional parts that made the first two so good.

In conclusion, Corruption does not represent the rest of the primes well

I skipped it because its for Nintendo. If it weren't for Pokemon I would have never bought a Nintendo product. I like to play Pokemon snap in real life. I once got a picture of an American bison from like a meter away. I guess that would be like taking a picture of a torros.

Love is whats most important.

I didnt skip the series at all, well except Prime 2... I loved the look, but have never passed 50% in prime 1.

Never bought 2

Was impressed by 3, still gave up after 60%

I dont like FP Metroid. Go back to 2-D. Zero Mission has been the best Metroid since Super Metroid

The GC versions of Metroid were pretty fun. The Wii version annoys the shit out of me. I only bought the GC versions because people said it was the Halo killer (of course it wasn't). They were alot of fun though.

If Metroid is being done in 3-d,then theres no turning back from the First Person perspective, cause it has worked brilliantly so far.
2-d Metroids are still superior though,and Nintendo should try to revive that on the wii as well as the ds

I really,really have to encourage you to try out at least the first Metroid Prime.
I too aren't a fan of FPS.And i was EXTREMELY sceptical to hear Metroid was going to be a FPS like shooter.
But you don't want to miss out the following:
Great atmosphere based on superb music,gorgeous graphics and gameplay that's definitely out of this world.Literally. :)
Oh and the bosses aren't to easy.So if you are searching for a challenge your search has come to an end.
