Apparently the wii helped the gold medalist get stronger and fitter.

Newspapers and PR companies are going to be all over this. An Olympic gold medallist has revealed his training regime included playing the Nintendo Wii.

Japanese Olympic swimmer Kosuke Kitajima took gold for the mens' 100m breaststroke this week, and according to him the Wii helped him train for the podium.

What game was he playing? Why Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, of course! Hold on, he isn't sponsored by Sega, is he?

"See, Mario does the breaststroke. And thus, it's perfect mental training for envisioning the actual Olympic hall," Kitajima told Japanese site Yomiuri Sports.

According to a report by the BBC, Team Great Britain also play Nintendo's console in its spare time at the Olympic Village.

At least no-one's claimed to have trained with the bit rubbish official Beijing Olympics game yet...
