Forums - Gaming - Violence Filters, Whats the point?

Short version :

Putting such an option makes sense from a business point of view.

Long version :

1. For those who did not read: it's an option, as in optional, or as in "you don't have to activate it if you don't want to". As for the rating, it will have no impact on it, unless some mandatory parental code is implemented (that's not the case as far as I know), and at best it would get the game a 16+ rating instead of a 18+.... So :

2. Congratulation on discovering that Epic put a violence filter in their games. It only took you 10 years. Of course that has everything to do with obscure pressure from hidden parental organisations and unknown governments, and absolutely nothing to do with increasing the game potential audience (without hurting the original one, since it's an option), and as such its sales, and ultimately the profit of the company (Epic is a caritative agency).

3. As for swearing : Forum rules :

"Insults. Attacking other users for any reason is never acceptable. This includes racism and bigotry. Do not insult someone's religion, race, sex, sexuality, nationality, political beliefs, or gaming preferences. Debate is encouraged, but respect the beliefs and opinions of others."

Not having insults is the norm, even on this site (for reasons). Why some people assume it's perfectly normal for everyone, in a game, is beyond me...

4. The majority of the FPS gamers play those games for the -aiming- skills, the strategy aspect (think Counter Strike), or simply because it's simple and fast to learn (aim, fire, hit). Contrary to the thread opener's belief, many of those people simply don't care for the gore or realistic aspect of the game, some being even turned off by it. Epic is trying to compete with 'Call of Duty', 'Halo' or 'Resistance', not 'the Saw IV: the game', and narrowing its audience by not putting such a simple option in its game just does not make sense.

5. Apparently, video games doesn't make people violent. It makes them paranoid.

3. On every other gaming forum site that I visit, insults are the norm. Hey an insult is ok it is in line with the real world: school or the work place. VGChartz over protects the kids on this site with its 24/7 policing.

4. I would love to see a Saw Video game

5. Video games can make you violent providing: you are under the influence of drugs, mentally disturbed or really drunk. Video games on their own do not make you violent.

3. No comment...

4. As you wish : 'Saw' video game announced :)

5. I was being sarcastic...

i dont mind them, some times i want to play a game but dont want to have f bombs dropped every third word, there s nothing there but shock value

in fact take games like that and turn it off, if the game is still fun to play then you have a good game and don need it

It's so that my children don't see large amounts of gore while I'm playing the game. I appreciate the feature very much.

I never thought I'd see the day... I bet it's either going to be toned down from the movies, or it will never be released in America.

Violence filters are a joke. lol. Make the game suitable for young kids who should not even be playing this sort of game in the first place. Restrictions should just not allow games over a certain rating from being played on a kid's console.

However kids are smarter than their parents these days and they could easily circumvent these restrictions in place and play the games the way they should be played 'all blood and gore'. Sooner or later the kids are going to be exposed to violence whether it be in real-life in America, on tv or a video game.

Find the filters a joke all you want.  Just because you have no use for the feature does not mean it has no value to anyone else.  Why not just, not use the filter then?  No harm to you, why be childish and slam such things for being a joke?  Grow up, the world is not according to Rock, as much as you may convince yourself it is.  My 2 year old does not need to see the gore.  Eventually he will see such things, no reason to show him now.  So either I only play games late at night, so he can't see, or they add a much appreciated violence filter, and I can play the game when I want.
