Forums - Gaming - Game Informer: Too Human Review! 6.5

First Too Human was not considered a "big gun" for the 360. It has never been in the same breath as GOW2, Fable 2, halo Wars, Halo, etc. Second I am so sick of seeing people make up their minds about games based on just "game journalist" reviews. There have been so many good games on all systems the last few years which people have not even tried because of reviews by magazines who half the time I think are not even in it to have fun anymore.  Examples Folk Lore, Viking (which got 6's and is a very very fun game), Overlord,  Earth Defense Force(which has become a bit of a cult hit), The Outfit, and I am sure I am missing a ton more. I'm not saying spend $60 on them. Rent them, try them when they price drop, but do not bash a game when you have not even tried it yet because of a review.

this is the 360s "haze".

Fortunately, it will sell much better than Haze. The demo was a good romp, and it's a definite must for those who enjoy Diablo type dungeon crawling/loot collecting.

Too Human has been characterized as a vaunted legendary ace up the 360s sleeve that might amaze everone, for a long time now.  In that sense it is way different from Haze, which went PS3 exclusive late in the game.

TH will sell better because of the aforementioned hyped, semi-legendary status if nothing else.  I'm not saying TH won't be better than Haze.

do you guys think if the game gets overall bad revues it will affect the promised trilogy?

Heavenly Sword was supposed to be a trilogy, iirc.  Now Ninja Theory is making a multiplat game.

Imo, this will be more like the 360's Heavenly Sword than Haze.  Reviews ranging from 6-9. Decent sales, but not enough for MS to invest more into the franchise.

Though I think Too Human will average in the mid to high 7s rather than the low 8s like Heavenly Sword.

There is of course the chance that the reason for the score is a hate of the SK's President, he's ticked off a lot of people. Every since the Unreal 3 Engine lawsuit and the E3 demo creation criticism, there has been a under current among reviewers and gamers that wanted to see him fail.

In such instances it is impossible to see a game clearly. I am not saying that they wrote a false review but just that they may, have been way more critical with the game than they would with others. "Epic? That lighting doesn't look epic!" "That monster robot doesn't move epicly! Not like a real monster robot!"
LOL.

I want it and I hope they are wrong- I like Dennis Dyack and I think that if it stunk as bad as they said they never would have released it. Wait and see.

I found this on NeoGAF:

His control grips seem to be the same as those of demo players, who didn't quite get the hang of it. It's not a perfect system, but I enjoyed it in the demo. The biggest complaint of it was the lack of precise targeting, as once you encounter enemies that explode next to you and such, it can be a pain trying to shoot them as you end up targeting other enemies by mistake..

Other gripes...

- No health regeneration for any characters except Bio Engineer, except through health orbs that are used on contact thus causing all characters playing alone besides a Bio to die A LOT which leads to..

- Lengthy death sequence, with no way to skip.

- Poorly designed boss fights. He doesn't go into detail, just says the bosses have a large amount of hitpoints and seem like parodies.

- Game feels designed for co-op, but story elements are completely removed for it. Although, he calls it a blessing because...

- Bad story. Bad cut-scenes that are poorly animated. Supposedly the story gets worse and worse as the game progresses.

Bottom line of the review:

If you enjoy leveling and looting, then it's worth a look. Otherwise, it's a waste of time.

The second opinion guy is a little nicer, but still comes up with the same bottom line.

Here are some pros it gives also...

- Good sound, decent voicework

- Great customization options, very deep. Lots of loot to collect and customize.

- Great graphical affects and character models (Environments and animation is negatively viewed)

yeah i think he's forgotten coherant sentence structure from a rare disease from too much ism of fanboy...aahhh whats me happening too...

Or maybe he was in a hurry to quickly make more negative remarks in another 360 thread and got lazy?

Wow, so much hate by Sony people for this game. Do Sony fans really need xbox 360 games to fail so they can feel better about themselves? (It goes both ways -- i.e. Haze, Lair)... Some of you people need to get a life.

Game Informer, being the official mouthpiece of Gamestop, wouldn't pan a game if it wasn't their true opinion... It would hurt sales. If they think it is a 6.75 then there are probably still enough issues in the game (as seen in the demo) for them to feel justified in their score. I personally don't see it from the demo I played, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I'll be picking it up regardless so where the final reviews land is not really relevant to me.
