Miyamoto has been training so many younger people to handle development duties. Nintendo will be fine.

Also, Miyamoto hasn't officiallydirected a game since Super Mario 64, I believe. But he was knee deep in development of Ocarina of Time, even though he was only credited as producer. When Eiji Aonuma was having trouble with Majora's Mask, Miyamoto stepped in and put the project back on track. He's way more involved in many of EAD's projects than the Producer title would suggest. He was also credited with the concept and game design for Super Mario Galaxy I believe.

But yeah, back to the main question, Ninty will be fine. And also, Miyamoto isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

He generally just oversees products now but I'm sure a lot of his talent is rubbing off onto his co-workers. Remember Nintendo just isn't Miyamoto. The creative team is most of them haha. He's just the backbone of what has been a lot of the great games but it doesn't mean he's the only one. I'm sure when Miyamoto retires he'll be missed greatly but Ninty will still be fine.

I think Nintendo is preparing for that just in case. Like Anouma who is the director of the Zelda games, maybe he will be the one who will inherit the master sword and shield :P

hmmm Eternal Darkness was done by Silicon Knights. How did Miyamoto get involved with that production?

Two things to keep in mind. Nintendo has NEVER failed to be profitable except for one year and that was caused by exchange rate issues. I don't think they will have failed to bring along proteges to step in.

Second, if they did need anyone else, they have a few gazillion dollars on hand to hire anyone they want, or buy any company they want.

They'll be OK. But I'm not sure that they will find anyone who could watch summa wrestlers weigh in and come up with Wii Fit and the balance board.
