This is ridicious! I used to be considered a elitist to my friends! I caused fear and panic amongst them as none of them ever wanted to play Halo 2 with me, for fear of a energy sword to the back of the head! Friends and Family were in awe of my skill with video games and respected my mastery of the controller.
But its all changed! The very fabric of video-gaming changed right before me, I've now found myself fumbling nervously with a Wii-wheel as I stumble accross a maze of red shells, bananas, and fake item boxes! Getting knocked off arena's built for mario, samus, yoshi, and plenty more! I've been tripping over mario's own two feet as I navigate planet and planet, galaxy and galaxy, and that annoying pillshaped world.
Nintendo, you've changed the way I view gaming. It used to be that I was "pro" and "hardcore" and none of my casual friends wanted to play because they always knew the outcome before the match begun. But its not that way any more, its definately changed.
I now have fun.
I've rediscovered something I somehow lost when I was a kid, back in the 6th generation. It never was about fun, with my PS2 and xbox it was all about defeating the other players, conquering that challange, and claiming that achievement to brag to my friends who didn't care. But I somehow forgot that these games were about fun.
Nintendo, I suppose I have to once again thank you for bringing back something I lost in games. I now play games with my friends, and most importantly. With my family, I often lose but we laugh about all the silly things that happen during the game-play. It isn't about winning, losing, its about having fun.

so.... strip people of their skills, forcing skilled player to be on the same level of those who are just randomly pressing button.... that is your idea of fun?
Not that I'm saying winning is everything, but it's always fun to win and have that bragging rights (even if it's just playful trash talk between friends). If I want to play a game with outcome completely depended on chance, as oppose to the player's skill level. I'd go roll a dice.
It's like saying the Olympics isn't about winning and losing, it's about the spirit.. yeah, somehow it works a lot better on paper as in the real world.

If you beat your friends in every game, every time, it's not so fun anymore. Trust me.

This is very true, I can't play halo 3 anymore. Infact, my brother took it away from me so he could practice. Every match agaist him ended in something like 30-2. Which isn't very fun at all, its boring! When I wanted games to be a challange, I very much infact wanted that challange. But something only can challange you for so long before you overcome it, and when that happens? Most gamers simply move onto the next challange, the next achievement.
With the wii, I decided to for-go seeking the next challange to beat. When I play Mario Kart Wii Online, I don't hoard myself infront of the pack for GP. I stay back in 5th or 6th place where everyone is strugglin' to get to 1st. It would be WAY too easy for me to plug in my Gamecube controller and beat the random competition you find to a plup a fairly good amount of times. But instead I grab that wii-wheel and have a good laugh or two.
I'm not saying that you can't have a fun without the challanges and achievements, but sometimes when you let that consume your entire gameplay experience you forget how much fun you COULD be having in that game. Think of that next time your lookin' for that next achievement or trophy on your xbox or playstation.
