Forums - Microsoft - Wow, I'm disappointed with the Tales of Vesperia Demo

I love RPGs but the Tales of Vesperia demo seemed very, very tired. to me.  It is VERY similar to Eternal Sonata but the graphics and colors are not nearly as rich.  If you played the demo and LIKED it, tell me what you like about the demo as I was very underwhelmed.  I'm trying to get FFXII finished up so I can start on Lost Odyssey and was hoping Tales was going to be a Great Japanese Anime RPG.  I'm even further blown away by the first day sales report from Japan showing the game off to a STRONG start (for a 360 title).  Color me dumbfounded.

why i have not planed it and dont really plan on playing it.

I wonder what everyone else thinks of this game, i will get it when it is cheaper or on the ps3

Well, if you don't like this one, there will be like 10 more RPGs to choose from before the end of the year.

Currently playing on PS3: God of War III

Currently playing on Xbox360: Final Fantasy XIII

Currently playing on NDS: Chrono Trigger

Did you play previous Tales games?

Have you ever played a Tales game before?

I happen to love the battle system, and it's much more rich than Eternal Sonata's as this lets you link combos and special moves and the like.

You haven't played a Tales game before, have you? Anyway, it was almost universally agreed that the demo for ToV was showcasing a very stupid point for a demo. It wasn't very far in and didn't explain the story at all.

However, if you are complaining about the battle system, then the reasons are probably because you can't beat it. Its true that its not like other JRPGs; you have to use strategy sometimes in this one. An the battle systems takes a little bit of getting used to, but its one of the best in any JRPG, anywhere. Wtach some gametrailers videos.

Wait for a review or rent it before deciding.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

I played symphonia and I guess, at the time, it was good. I don't find the graphics on this tales any better than the Gamecube version for the most part.  I guess I'm just not seeing any real innovation.  If this is fan service to previous versions then I'll have to pass.  I enjoyed Symphonia, but I like my games to at least evolve through each iteration rather than just repeat the past.

@obie -- why do you even post that type of comment? You say you haven't played it, don't plan on playing it, and then say you'll play it on the PS3. We know you don't like the 360 and this is in a 360 forum. Why even bother?

I just generally feel RPG (and especially JRPG) demos are a bad idea.
