| Words Of Wisdom said: I agree with him. The difference between someone who plays games and someone who doesn't is enjoyment. If people buying WiiFit are playing it once and tossing it to the wayside, it means they're not enjoying it as much as they likely could/should. The worst part is that many of these "non-gamers" aren't going to give games a second chance. If they don't buy in now, they're never going to buy in. They're going to hear people talk about video games and think about that "over priced WiiFit POS" they tossed in a closet after the first week. At that point they're done with gaming. In fact, the more people Nintendo turns off to gaming, the more they're actually damaging the industry themselves. Nintendo got their quick buck, the consumers got something they won't like/use shortly after buying it, and the rest of the industry gets hosed. |
So at the rate it is going, Wii Fit is already preventing 10% of Wii owners (in North America) from buying games and by the end of the year it will be up to (or over) 20% of Wii owners? Its amazing that the Wii can sell more software than the XBox 360 and PS3 then ...
I wouldn't be surprised to see 60% to 75% of Wii Fit owners not playing it 6 weeks after they bought it, but I don't (realistically) see them as holding it against the Wii or Wii Fit as much as they will hold it against themself. I go to a lot of garage sales throughout the summer months, and I see a ton of fitness equipment yet I almost never hear someone say that they were mad at the company who made it (or that they wouldn't buy equipment in the future) as much as I hear people say that they simply ran out of time to use it and a couple of years later decided to sell it so someone else can get use out of their mint-condition excercise equipment.
