Forums - Microsoft - I just played "Gears of wars"

Yeah I know it took me a while XD but I don't have an xbox360. I did played it in friend's one yesterday.

I did liked:

*The Graphics. I don't think they are that great. But many of the effects (water, lighting, focus) and the facial expressions were very good.

*The music. I do like that there's music all the game along and not only in some parts. And it goes very well with the action on screen.

*Voice. In mexico, it has a mexican dub. It was very well done. Not overreactions or something.

*Lots of action

*Nice scary moments XD

I didn't liked:

*The controls. One of the reasons I stopped playing FPS's is because the controls became idiotically complicated. You walk with a stick, you turn with the other, you pick a gun with a button, change weapons with the d-pad..it took more than an hour to barely get used Dx They should used a "Resident evil 4" scheme..dunno why they didn't.

*The graphics. Yeah I know I did said it before but why everything has to be in 3 shades of sepia/gray. It got boring after a while.

*The music. Honestly, I don't like that videogames have movie-like music.

*The deathmatch mode. I was never a big fan of said modes ever anway.

I didn't cared:

*The story. Kinda generical but it was ok.

So, depsite the controls it was a very fun game, specially with a friend in co-op. I saw a trailer of the 2d part and it seems interesting.

Cool game! =)

What's wrong with a movie-like score?

@Riachu
Call me old school, but I do think that videogame music should sound like *videogame* music. An example is Zelda twilight princess and Dragon quest 8 which had tunes that went with the beat of the game instead of only BG music.

They did a great job, nonetheless ^^

I just finished re-playing it a week ago and I ended up beating it in 2 sittings because I knew everything about the game.
I have to say they didn't perfect the Lancer (assault rifle) because it doesn't feel like your connecting with the enemy. As opposed to a shotgun, you feel the enemy being blown apart.
The control scheme was alright, I don't think they could have done it any other way :/

360 IS OPERATIONAL AFTER 37 DAYS!

i dont know how you can call the control scheme complicated - the only thing that is annoying is using the dpad to change weapons

In my opinion, Resident Evil 4's controls are way more complex than Gears'. In Gears, you don't have to open a menu to change weapon, it's all right on the D-Pad (which sucks by the way). In Gears, you pick up items with the X button (or E on PC), in Resident Evil 4, it's the A button (on the Wii at least). In Gears, you activate the melee attack with the B button (or F on PC), in Resident Evil 4, you have to aim and swing the remote to swing your knife (on the Wii at least), etc.

Overall, it's not much different, it's only just a matter of getting used to the controller you're holding.

Also, I know it's your opinion, but I have to disagree with what you said about the music. I really think orchestrated and sequential music in video games is probably the best innovation ever.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

I loved online like a drug. When you get good, its more awesome then any halo, ever.

Controls were my favorite part. Then again I play lots of FPR games, so i'm used to good hand IQ.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Resident Evil has horrible controls. Only 4 was descent. You also can't run while your shooting

Agreed, if you have a quality composer and they match the tempo of the music with the tempo of the game it makes an enormous difference.  The soundtrack for the original Halo is still one of my favorites.
