Sounds like as long as the PS2 hardware continues to sell, Sony wants to continue selling it.

I almost wonder idly if that means PS2 BC will ever be reintroduced when the PS2 is finally retired.

Seeing as how in another two years or so when that happens, the PS3 slimline will probably be introduced, it seems doubtful.

The confusion continues. Seriously with Sony and MS this gen and all the SKU's I just can't keep up.

If that one model (I refuse to use the term SKU) had backwards-compatibility, then I'd actually get one. I don't understand why it's been phased out, as the reputedly obscene powar of the CELL should allow software emulation, surely?

Stock Keeping Unit. It's a retail term, which makes it all the more ridiculous to see it used beyond bulk invoices and the little stickers on brown boxes. This is fine if you're actually discussing the warehouseing and shipping aspect of the industry, but it's mutated into a buzzword that's used in place of the perfectly descriptive "model" when talking about a general variations in a product.

When they achieve profitability on the PS3. BC now would harm PS2 sales (where they make a profit) and increase the production cost of the PS3.
