steven787 - I was still writing that response while you'd submitted yours, so excuse me for not being pyschic. :P
If all those features are soooooo great, than how do you explain the world falling in love with the Wii.
Who, that owns a game console, doesn't own an effin computer, DVD player, or Stereo. Not very many
How do I explain the world falling in love with the Wii? It has mass appeal, but that doesn't make it better. It's like saying Britney Spears is the best singer cos she sells the most albums or something.
I own a PC, stereo and DVD player. I'll tell you a couple of things I do with the 360 though: -
I stream music to it from my PC while I'm playing games. I can also rip CDs to the hard drive if I want to. You admit yourself that more Wii games should support custom soundtracks, but where do you put all of your music when it only has support for up to 2GB SD cards? I can bring up the music player at any time on the 360, which pauses the game, select any song, album or playlist from my PC and then get back into the game. Any game.
I download movies in HD. Not many admittedly, but only because the selection here in the UK is so poor. If I was in the US I'd use that feature a lot more, and I'd have a Netflix account so I could choose from 10,000 or so on demand movies and TV shows. Also, I can stream movies from my PC. My PC is set up in the spare bedroom and it has a 22" monitor, but downstairs I have the 360 hooked up to a nice big LCD TV so I have a choice where I want to watch films.
I didn't buy the 360 with those things in mind - I bought it to play games, but since owning it I've found those features really useful.
Console games should not be broken
Yes, in an ideal world which is not the one that we live in.
You will be able to play data from the SD card with new updates and utilization of the hardware.
Link me to the announcement from Nintendo that they're going to be doing that, because at E3 they categorically stated that they had no plans to, and that deleting games and redownloading them wasn't a problem in their opinion.
If you think full HD graphics, proper surround sound, HD movie playback and streaming, music playback and streaming, a far more fully featured online service, downloadable demos for every XBLA game, downloadable HD game videos - I could go on much longer but I won't - If you think those things are just "nit picking" then I think you're crazy. One console is far more powerful and fully featured than the other, but that doesn't mean you can't be happy with the less featured one. Just be realistic about it.
