Torillian, you do know a lot of the stuff the Ps360 can do is mainly done with the Ipods right? You know, downloading movies, music, video.

The Wii is also able to play online with friends, will have voice chat, and will have dlc, as shown with Samba de Amigo. The only thing you listed that can't be done on other things is Achievements.

What about Wii? Can you download movies, music and etc? So it will have dlc and voice chat. Barely? By the end of the gen, the Wii online will be as good as the PSN when it first started.

Why would you want to download movies, music and etc. if you bought a console to play games?

I've only read a little bit of this thread, and holy God, is it retarded. A lot of you should feel ashamed, OP included.

You don't have to like the Wii, but it's moronic when you say the Wii is killing hardcore gaming. Firstly, if that is the case, then play the 360 and PS3. But it's another thing when you say the Wii is "killing gaming". Let's be frank, there is no evidence to back this up, but better yet, evidence to say that it is helping. Galaxy and Brawl both sold over 5 million units, and if we include Mario Kart, another 5 million. These "core" games still sell, so it certainly isn't killing it, especially if we get games like No More Heroes. Additionally, if you look at the sales of the 360 and PS3, you'll see this extreme "core" can't work. People don't want to pay extreme prices for a game console.

And another thing, stop using these damn labels. There is no "core" or "casual". You can't draw a diffinative line in the sand. There is no real way to claim what core is and what casual is. Trust me, people have tried, yet they never offer a definition that isn't contradictory. I like Brawl and Galaxy, but I also though Wii Sports was awesome and, yes, I'll probably buy Wii Sports Resort, not to mention Boom Blox is an awesome game. I play game that fall into both camps. So how then, can the Wii be killing games because there is no evidence at all. Their all videogames. They are meant for entertainment. You play them to have FUN.

This topic should really be locked. This is just a combination of fanboy rants and "sky is falling" remarks. There is no truth. Play the games you like and enjoy them. It's not some job or higher order. It's just to have fun. You enjoy long and engaging games while others enjoy short and simple games. There. Done.

What about game demos? Game videos? What about some decent storage space to hold the games you can download? What about game add-ons? Patches for games that are broken in some way? The Wii is at a disadvantage in a lot of ways.

The Wii does have game videos, is now starting to utilize the SD card for storage space and will be getting game demos and downloadable content and already has them for the NDS.

Funny it seems the Wii is doing just find keeping the pace.

You cannot play games from the SD card. You can store them there, but that's it. You still have to copy them back to the Wii's internal memory to play them. "Will be getting" is not the same as "has".

The Wii isn't keeping pace in terms of features at all. It's not even remotely close, and I say that as a Wii owner myself. It is a basic gaming machine with graphics that are barely better than the last generation. The two things it has going for it are a unique control scheme and titles that you won't get to play on any other system and that's all. That is enough for many people of course, but to try and put the Wii on the same level as the PS3 or 360 in terms of features, the online system, or graphics, is just ridiculous because it's no contest.

You will be able to play data from the SD card with new updates and utilization of the hardware. Get over it, you're just nit picking.

Did you guys know that Obliterator doesn't know what "damage-control" is? ROFL!

Sorry to disappoint you, but I use real terms instead of internet terms... Last I checked internet terms dont help you get into college.

Judging by your sig, "you think too much of yourself "...

Since when is damage control an Internet term exactly? It existed way before the Internet appeared.

steven787 - I was still writing that response while you'd submitted yours, so excuse me for not being pyschic. :P

If all those features are soooooo great, than how do you explain the world falling in love with the Wii.

Who, that owns a game console, doesn't own an effin computer, DVD player, or Stereo. Not very many

How do I explain the world falling in love with the Wii? It has mass appeal, but that doesn't make it better. It's like saying Britney Spears is the best singer cos she sells the most albums or something.

I own a PC, stereo and DVD player. I'll tell you a couple of things I do with the 360 though: -

I stream music to it from my PC while I'm playing games. I can also rip CDs to the hard drive if I want to. You admit yourself that more Wii games should support custom soundtracks, but where do you put all of your music when it only has support for up to 2GB SD cards? I can bring up the music player at any time on the 360, which pauses the game, select any song, album or playlist from my PC and then get back into the game. Any game.

I download movies in HD. Not many admittedly, but only because the selection here in the UK is so poor. If I was in the US I'd use that feature a lot more, and I'd have a Netflix account so I could choose from 10,000 or so on demand movies and TV shows. Also, I can stream movies from my PC. My PC is set up in the spare bedroom and it has a 22" monitor, but downstairs I have the 360 hooked up to a nice big LCD TV so I have a choice where I want to watch films.

I didn't buy the 360 with those things in mind - I bought it to play games, but since owning it I've found those features really useful.

Console games should not be broken

Yes, in an ideal world which is not the one that we live in.

You will be able to play data from the SD card with new updates and utilization of the hardware.

Link me to the announcement from Nintendo that they're going to be doing that, because at E3 they categorically stated that they had no plans to, and that deleting games and redownloading them wasn't a problem in their opinion.

If you think full HD graphics, proper surround sound, HD movie playback and streaming, music playback and streaming, a far more fully featured online service, downloadable demos for every XBLA game, downloadable HD game videos - I could go on much longer but I won't - If you think those things are just "nit picking" then I think you're crazy. One console is far more powerful and fully featured than the other, but that doesn't mean you can't be happy with the less featured one. Just be realistic about it.

I am not sad that Nintendo is winning this gen.

I was not sad when Sony won last gen.

I am sad that most people posting in this thread feel the Wii will destroy gaming, and the core-gamers will be a thing of the past, pushed away for gamers that just want to play for 20 minutes at a time.

of course the Wii didn't directly contribute to the demise of getaway and eighty days , good job of taking my words out of context though , other factors helped as well.

But if the PS3 was at 30 million eight days and getaway would still be in development , Sony would likely be making a profit with the ps3 and 3rd parties would be licking Sony's shoes.

Do you really think the Wii is competing with the PS3? Anyone that's interested in the games the PS3 offers would never be satisfied with just a Wii, so I don't buy that. You're making a scapegoat of Nintendo when Sony themselves are to blame.

So who are they competing with? I'm sure its not the ps1, or ps2...

They aren't competing with anyone. That's the point. Nintendo set things up so that Sony and MS would think they were fighting for graphics and difficult, epic games, and then they came out of left field with motion controls and easy, fun games. No other company, hardware or software, has been able to field even a token defense against nintendo's new strategy. That's the reason nintendo is selling all-time records for consoles sold in non holiday months. That's the reason that Nintendo made a billion dollars of profit last quarter. Sony and Microsoft and the rest of the game industry still thinks they're fighting the last console war, or the PS1 console war. They aren't, and so they aren't competing with ninty.

OTOH, Nintendo is competing with MS and Sony in arguably a more important field: developer talent. A programmer can only be writing one game at a time, and a team can be only devving one game at a time. Right now, most of the last gen developers aren't really paying attention to the wii, or paying lip service to it, and I think that's a big issue. This just shear fanboy speculation, but I feel that developers that choose the wii this generation are going to become the new pantheon of high tier developers, and the rest are gonna fall by the wayside.

Sorry to derail.

Wii has more 20 million sellers than PS3 has 5 million sellers.
