Forums - Gaming - Who else is sad that Nintendo is winning/won this gen ?

Torillian, you do know a lot of the stuff the Ps360 can do is mainly done with the Ipods right? You know, downloading movies, music, video.

The Wii is also able to play online with friends, will have voice chat, and will have dlc, as shown with Samba de Amigo. The only thing you listed that can't be done on other things is Achievements.

What about Wii? Can you download movies, music and etc? So it will have dlc and voice chat. Barely? By the end of the gen, the Wii online will be as good as the PSN when it first started.

Let's all be honest with ourselves, after the MASSIVEMEGAFAILURE that was the Cube, did any dev expect Nintendo to dominate this hard this gen?

Now they are. And because of that, more heavy hitter mega hits will come to the Wii. Those who are pessimistic about it, must've never like the Wii, or Nintendo for that matter, to begin with.
Why would games like,"mega Hits" come to the wii when 3rd party games dont sell well on the wii?

good guess

How many of those are Okami, Zack & Wiki, Boom Blox and No More Heroes?

It doesn't matter because they all sold more than expected.

Okami- more than the PS2 version.

Zack and Wiki- More than anticipated, especially for such a niche genre.

Boom Blox- EA was surprised at how much it sold. Probably working on a sequel.

No More Heroes- Suda's highest selling game.

None of those games sold particularly well did they? They may have made money for the developers, but with the huge install base the Wii has, you'd have expected a casual game like Boom Blox to have sold more, especially as it has Spielberg's name associated with it.

Wii has 10 million more consoles in the market guys...

360 is a beast...

Not in the US, Wii is only slightly ahead there and the graph is US only. If this included the entire world Wii would be deomlishing the 360.

<Clap> We are five threads+ into this discussion and still hardly anyone brings this up, this is the first post I've seen.

Still in 4-5 weeks I'll have a 360, in 4-5 months I'll have a PS3 again and I will have no reason to be sad... Other than the fact that I'd have spent 1050 on consoles (1500+ with controllers, cables, etc) by that time... thats 20(30) games.

That is why I am sad.

I would cite regulation, but I know you will simply ignore it.

Did you guys know that Obliterator doesn't know what "damage-control" is? ROFL!

The Point was: Why would you want to download movies, music, etc when the Ipod everyone already owns can?

These features don't benefit Video Games, they're completely extraneous and non-essential.

Why would you want to download movies, music and etc. if you bought a console to play games?

What about game demos? Game videos? What about some decent storage space to hold the games you can download? What about game add-ons? Patches for games that are broken in some way? Custom soundtracks (Excite Truck is the only one I believe)? The Wii is at a disadvantage in a lot of ways.

I can do that on my computer

Did not the stranger already explain this? I guess only the hardcore who fled towards the Cinematic Cycle's sunset was listening, so I shall say it again for him. Please listen carefully.

Game developers must make a profit to survive above all else. What matters is how much they make, not how many are sold compared to some other title. Okami Wii could sell only 100,000 copies and still be a bigger success than its PS2 version, as long as it made more money for Capcom than the PS2 version did.

A game which costs $50 million to produce, market, etc. and earns $55 million in sales has profited $5 million. A game which costs $5 million to produce, market, etc. and earns $15 million in sales has profited $10 million. Ergo the game with $15 million in sales has been a better business venture than the one that earned $55 million in sales.

Please don't forget this important lesson. The means must bring about the ends long before the ends justify the means.

The Wii does have game videos, is now starting to utilize the SD card for storage space and will be getting game demos and downloadable content and already has them for the NDS.

Funny it seems the Wii is doing just find keeping the pace.
