I think the whole issue is that Viva Pinata, Rare's last semi-casual game sold gangbusters at $20, so they are splitting the difference for a true A/B test on X360 price points to see if the $39.99 pricetag has a better yield.

I'm more excited about Viva Pinata. I liked the first but there was no way in hell I was going to drop $60 for the sequel. At $40 I will probably pick it up :D

I beg to differ. Disgaea 3 is $50 on the PS3 new and that is a high quality game. Many Wii games debut less than $50 and they are considered of the utmost quality. The 360 has not implemented this tactic very often, but I say it's a good move for Rare to help move more units. I doubt this means quality is out the window in regards to these titles.

the game is going to launch a week after gears of war, this price will help make sure it doesnt come out of the gate dead.

I proudly buy any games I want at retail.

Disgaea 3 is not a high quality game. It's fun and has a lot of replayability but it is definately not high quality. That game could have run on the PS2
