Forums - General - 2016- Chicago? What do you think of the Spire skyscraper?

Whoa you guys have an Oakland?

Oh, it had 996 people in 2000.

Mine had 399,484 in 2000.

Is your Oakland scary as fuck?

Mine goes like this:

In 2003, 109 murders in a city of 407,000 set Oakland 3.5 times higher than the national average. That same year, all violent crimes in Oakland were 2.31 times more numerous than the national average, and property crimes were 1.26 times more numerous. In 2004, there were 88 murders, and in 2005 there were 94.

I think it was a cheap attempt to have the worlds largest residential building but then Dubai beat them to the punch by making their building bigger and better.

In the pictures you have the thing looks like a civilization monument... in otherwords weird.

Either that or like... some alien tower from which aliens enslave the populous.

Hopefully it looks better with "real" matieral when the lighting looks better.

I'm sure that it'll fit in a lot more once its done. Renders like this always make a building look a lot more out of place than it really is. Have you seen any of the renders for the trump building thats almost complete? They looked terrible, but now that the things almost finished it looks great and fits in fairly well. Which is a rarity for anything donald trump touches. The same thing goes for Aqua. Although it does stick out a little, but in a good way.

Chicago is going through a building boom and its skyline will look a hell of a lot different 10 years from now. I think there are about 60 buildings over 12 stories tall currently under construction and nearly 100 in the planning stages.

Oh, and the Burj Dubai is really the tallest building in the world no matter how you slice it. If the Chicago Spire is finished quick enough it will be the second tallest in the world, but shortly thereafter it will be overtaken by the Russian Tower.

The Sears Tower is the worlds tallest building.

the CN Tower is taller.

Both wrong.

Amp316...Sears tower has the most floors. But Sears tower stands at 1,451 feet. Two other buildings located in China and Taiwan are both taller. Shanghai World Financial Center located in China stands at 1,614ft and the one located in Taiwan stands at 1671ft.

Cn tower(Its a structure/building):Burj Dubai is taller by by 272ft...

the cn tower is taller than the sears tower, which is what i said.   i didnt claim it to be the tallest.

Yeah the Trump building looks pretty good I think...it's not a wild design though.  It fits in at least, and yeah, I was a tiny bit worried about that as well when I saw the renders.  The real thing definitely looks better, so here's hoping the Spire turns out well.

Here's pics of the Trump building, which will be the second tallest building in the US, and Chicago, when it's done next year:

Speaking of supertall buildings, you guys hear about this?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7355139.stm

On April 18, 2008, a homeless man revealed that he found important blueprints about the Freedom Tower in a New York City trash can. The Port Authority called it "a serious security lapse" and has opened an investigation.

That's a security lapse to be sure, though I'm guessing a serious terrorist would be able to get a copy of such blueprints fairly easily anyway.
