Are you actually claiming that NPD's software sales are less accurate than VGC's?  Because I seriously don't think that's the case.  I love VGC and all, but I think we can all admit that its software sales can be... iffy.

Edit:  Even so, that's a rather large discrepancy.  I cannot believe that VGC overtracked NPD by 10M...

Edit2:  The original Kotaku article lists PS3 1st + 3rd parties at about 22M, so if VGC total PS3 software sales are actually 33.7 (are you sure you got them correctly?  Could it actually be 23.7?), then it looks like we did overtrack PS3 software by about 10M (compared to NPD) during the period.  Crazy.

It's so entertaining to see the damage control/goal post shifting going on here (and on Kotaku) by the Wii-bashers. Now that there is conclusive NPD evidence that Wii 3rd party software outsold PS3 and 360 3rd party software during each consoles' first 19 months at retail, the excuses are just flying!

Excuse 1: "But hao many of dose gayems are akshually gewd!? I bets toes gayems are teh shovelwarez! What are teh media critic ratings of dose gayems!?"

Excuse 2: "But teh gayems are cheeper! So yah, they will sell!"

Excuse 3: "It's only teh Carnival Gayems gayem! No hardcoor gayems are selling, teh Carnival GAyems gayem do not count!"


These guys are just so pathetic and as entertaining as ever. When the original argument of "Wii 3rd party games don't sell" is proven false, they want to add all these addendums.  ZenFolder had a nice post on page 1 where he called out Kyros and Diomedes on this... I'd love to see their responses to that post.

In retrospect, Nintendo releasing their argument in two steps was genius: Start by releasing data which feigns weakness and inevitably draws demands to show the full story, and then reveal their actual strength to be exactly what they claimed, and force their detractors to either accept Nintendo is doing well, or to move the goalposts. Since the former seems to be pretty much unthinkable by the peanut gallery on blogs like joystiq, kotaku and destructoid (the former of which is due for some serious crow eating for their dizzying spin on the subject), they were forced into the latter. And so, with two graphs, the hypocrisy of the Wii bashers on gaming blogs has been laid bare for all the world to see.

Agreed.  I didn't even think about it like that.

And as for Joystiq, people posted a link to Kotaku's updated 3rd party only graph in Joystiq's original trolling, spin-heavy blog post and the editors deleted it each time.  A heavy Joystiq poster by the name of SamFish said that his comment was purposely deleted that contained that Kotaku link.

I did though June 08 for Ps3 and Wii. I believe that is correct.

NPD doesn't count MGS 4 - subtract 1M

NPD doesn't count most of Motorstorm - subtract 1.5M

NPD doesn't count Wii Sports. They're 12M above VGC actually. So if this is correct, that's a ~ 10M undertrack of Wii...
