Forums - Gaming - Confessions of a pirate

This issue is strange. After the internet started, just about everyone has pirated something one way or another. Downloading music illegally is no different than videogames. It won't hurt the top executives/producer or lead designers/music stars, but it can hurt the hundreds of people working under them, those that doesn't get paid enough to buy 3 houses and 6 cars.

Dude, nothing is wrong with being a pirate. They charge way too much for the games. Well, people have different morals.

For me it's the game, not how I get it.

You realize part of the reason the games cost what they do, is to make up for what they lost in pirated software?  So basically, those that are pirating, are shafting those that are actually paying for their games.  And I am not too appreciative of that.

I pirated 95% of my PS1 games, 100% of my PS2 and now 100% of my 360 games. To me it is as simple as if I don´t buy pirated games I won´t buy real ones, so no company is losing real money because of me. Games here are so expensive it is impossible for 95% of the people in my country to buy.

What a classic excuse.  I do agree with stof, that pirating games is not the biggest sin in the world, but I still do not appreciate the people that do.  And if you wouldn't have bought the game in the first place, then plain and simple, you shouldn't have it.

yknow one of the reasons i bought a ps3 is the fact that there are no pirated games on it yet.

.... because i was a pirate too in the past, and i regret it now.. :P

not in the games department, but in the DVD... yes

woot, glad I got it out of me...

I agree with you , but as someone who´s been basically addicted to gaming since a child, I said "screw it!" (immaturity) and became a pirate. And from now on, I will become a "real" gamer.

So it goes from "not pirating games --> not being a gamer anymore" to "pirating games --> becoming a real gamer down the road". I think that for let´s say Sony which suffered the most from my pirating they will soon be getting real money from me.

I really can´t excuse it and I´m trying to mend my ways, but the fact that I did will lead me to being an honest gamer so hopefully that will serve to "make up" at least part of my pirating behaviour.

Yo, I've never pirated a single game and I've owned a PSone since day one. I have imported though...

I didn't.  I never owned a PSone.

If you count roms, I guess I'm a pirate.  I almost got the witcher way back but I hate daemon tools.  A lot of games require you to use that and I object to it.
