PS3's version of Bioshock looks better because it has had an extra year of development.......

Do you mean that Bioshock PS3 was being developed while the 360 version was, and has now had a year LONGER dev time?  I think that's wrong.

If you just mean that it's coming out a year LATER, when built originally for PC and 360, that certainly doesn't imply that PS3's resources don't have something to do with the impressive visuals.

Ah, Oblivion and now Bioshock.  What are some examples of 360 remakes of PS3 timed exclusives where the later 360 version's visuals dominated the shit out of the PS3 visuals?  (there may well be some but I'm just not remembering.)

With respect to what version will be more fun? No. As a demonstration of what console is more capable? Yes.

I wonder if the PS3 version will even hit 90+ on metacritic??

Ok this is the Bioshock preview on IGN and the observation about Blu-Ray occurs in the 2nd page.

Although it was still an early build of the game, the title looks fantastic. The water effects look much slicker, as do many of the environments as they are slowly submerged in water. It's quite obvious that 2K is taking full advantage of the PS3's Blu-ray discs to pack in cleaner high resolution textures for every facet of the game; while we didn't see any pro-pixel leatherization diffusion within our early sections of the title, we wouldn't be surprised if it makes an appearance in the later stages, such as Arcadia or Fort Frolic.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/897/897091p1.html

What they observe makes a lot of sense as the animation and AI routines can be handled by a powerful CPU and GPU. However what the blu-ray disk give is the bigger storage for more detailed textures that can then be applied over your raw models thus improving the overall graphics a lot.

Makes me wonder at what stage do more and more developers start using this advantage to make games with significantly improved graphics?

Apart from this the preview had lots more interesting details about the upcoming PS3 Bioshock, read on folks.

Same thing for Rage.

John Carmack says Blu-ray offers better graphics:

At this point, I think that all the next multiplatform titles, will be better on PS3.

Thanks Blu-Ray!!!!

Lets say this is correct...you realize that people with STDV will not see any texture difference

Possibly true (although it depends on how near you are to the textured object) But who plays a PS3 or 360 on a SD-TV? That's terrible. Decent LCD TVs are not much more expensive than a PS3 anymore and you cannot buy any SD TVs where I live.

and people playing with 720p or higher may see it only if their TV is over 42 inches in size.

Sorry but this is bullshit. Not the size of the TV is relevant but the resolution and the viewing angle. Or to say it differently how far away from the TV you are sitting. If you cannot see any differences of better textures sit nearer to the TV. Try it the feeling is much more cinematic.

Besides there is only so many textures ps3 can process at "higher res" before things start to chug since the memory is limited and graphics processor is limited as well.

That was the case but game developers get better and apparently they now start to overcome these problems. That is the point. Until now texture size was limited by memory and bandwidth so there was no advantage of BluRay over DVD. But if developers can now use the space this has changed. We will see this in future releases.

PS3 is better than X360 in terms of graphic but it need great and hardworking developer like Hideo Kojima (MGS4). Also it cost a lot of money.

Trust a site called "PS3Fanboy" to pick and choose what Carmack said. Carmack actually says that the ONLY advantage the PS3 has is the storage Blu-Ray discs offer. In every other respect he says it's "unequivocal across the board that the 360 is the better platform to develop for". Check out this interview with him where he goes in to detail on why the 360 is better in every aspect apart from disc storage: -

Thread is bullshit, IGN are talking shit.

The Xbox 360 Bioshock is NOWHERE NEAR filling even a DVD9.

...Man the shit people talk. How annoying!

I doubt that.  It's being ported not having extra development as such.  Personally I doubt it's going to look much different apart from "maybe" some sharper textures.  All the official releases from 2K have focused on the fact its going to look the same but have some new content, etc. which makes sense as even though its a new title to PS3 it has the stigma of an 'old' 360 game so something new is needed just to give it a little more relevance.

Besides, I wouldn't start this arguement as its sure to come back and haunt you...  as when FF is ported to 360 if there are sure to be rumours it looks better you're going to hear a lot of PS3 fanboys crying 'extra year of development'...

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...
