Forums - Sony - Little Big Planet Will Be Hardware Seller Claims Sony

Also Media Molecule is hiding something and they said it was something shocking. I don't know what it is, but it may affect sales. Just a rumor

It may or not be a system seller. The mains problems that this game might have is that :
1. You have no idea what this game is about if you didn't heard about it before
2. Even for those that know, there is a confusion as to what is the real goal of the game
3. That game isn't interesting without online
4. The main demographic of the console isn't necessarily in this kind of games.
5. The sackboys are brilliant

If they want the game to be a success, they need to do a lot of marketing. Ads that explain what the game is about could make up for 1,2 and 4.

other than that i agree with the post. If they could show advertisments explaining the concept idea+ just some cool trailers. I think the game would sell really well. With good reviews and stuff the game will also have long legs.

Sackboys could cause alot of sales to children imo

So how many children will go to their parents asking them to buy a $400-$500 console?

Yeah...personally I think this game will appeal mostly to owners who already have a PS3. And then again some people may not know about it (my friends who own a PS3 don't) or just won't care about it because it's "kiddy."

What does a child care of money?

Eh...my point is the parents would likely say no and it's too expensive, not the child.

True, it won't stop the kids though... and there are plenty of people out there who spoil their kids way too much.

Well...I'm not sure how many parents will buy a $400-$500 console + the game + tax for their kid ;P

Some might use their kid as an excuse though.

Hopefully it will.

if they want their kids to grow up as creative geniuses with a bright future. Of course they would buy their kids the game. Kids are more creative than adults.

not literally haha. Better than buying them FPS games with violence in it, right? (looks at GTA IV)

every game can be a hardware seller. If someone wants the console for LBP they will look to see if there are other titles they are interested in. If there are, they would buy the console. Its the same with SOCOM, MotorStorm 2, Resistance 2, etc.

I'm not comparing LBP to Wii Sports or anything but all five of those could easily apply to Wii Sports. ;)

Yes, Mii's without arms and legs is rather creepy.  :P

Huh?

1. If Nintendo advertised anything they advertised this game. Plus it has a name advantage: Wii Sports is pretty self explanitory.

2. The goal of Wii bowling is about as simple as it can get.

3. Wii Sports has online? I've been missing out!

4. I thought all HD fanboys say that Wii Sports players is Wii's only demographic.

5. This is a matter of taste. I really like both design choices.

I didn't really want to get into a point-by-point argument but here goes.

1.  I wasn't saying that the game wasn't advertised or that the name didn't speak for itself, but you (and Godot) act as if the game will be released and no advertising will follow it.  If they're aiming for the "everyone" crowd, then obviously, it will be advertised to everyone.

2.  And the goal of LBP is harder than bowling?  It's a simple go from point A to point B using tools/environment.  The goal is pretty easy.  The level may not be that easy, but that's not what we're talking about.

3.  You've proved my point.  Wii Sports, a game that is much smaller in scope than LBP does fine without online.  I'd hardly imagine 60 stages could be not interesting in the same fashion that five sports games without online is not interesting also.  If Wii Sports is fine without online, than so will LBP be.

4.  Resorting to fanboys of a console to make a point?  You're better than that.

5.  Exactly.  I like both too, so it's a non-issue.

But you hear the name Wii Sports and you know what the game is about. You turn it on and you know what to do. I really want LBP and I may convince a friend to buy it, but calling game where creation is the main focus as accesible as Wii Sports is a bit of a stretch.

This would be an awesome commercial of some sorts... and can potentially sell somethings.
