Forums - Microsoft - Does anyone else play xbox live games more than store bought games?

For the last while I've noticed that I'm playing quite a lot of xbox live games. Too much infact... all my other games are collecting dust due to this.

In the last 3-4 months I can guesstimate the following breakdown of games played.

Ninja Gaiden 2 - 10%

Darkness - 5%

Halo 3 - 25%

Rockband - 5 %

1942(Xbox live) - 5%

Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3(Xbox live) - 10%

Ikaruga(Xbox live) - 10%

Aces of the gallaxy(Xbox live) - 5%

Geometry Wars 2(Xbox live) - 10%

Street Fighter 2 HD Beta(Xbox live) - 15%

Games like GTA4, Guitar Hero 3, rockband, mass effect...all sit in my drawer unplayed for months. And with Braid and Bionic Commando out shortly and the fact I want to replay castlevania SOTN, I don't see this changing for a while.

Anyone else playing old school live arcade stuff more than store bought games?

I haven't bought one since I got my xbox, I have played 1 or 2 demos, but I hated them, so just deleted all the rubbish that came on my HDD

Once I started to get my points cards from my wife(Zune cards as promotions from her job) about two weeks ago this is what I bought:

Castlevania: SOTN
Ikaruga
Geometry Wars 2
Uno
TMNT 1989 Arcade Game
1942: Joint Strike
Braid
Carcassone + Rivers II and Barons and Kings Expansions
Pinball FX + Rocky and Bullwinkle and Nightmare Mansion tables
Alien Hominid HD
DOOM
Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
Prince of Persia Classic
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

On top of that, I order the Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1 disc off eBay which has:

Geomtery Wars
Outpost Kaloki X
Hardwood Backgammon
Bejeweled 2
Wik: Fable of Souls
Texas Hold 'Em

So yeah I guess you can say this is about all i've been playing. I did manage to sneak in some Kameo in between though. The funny part is I still have like 4000 points left. Too bad you can't gift XBLA games, because i'd love to make a contest or something to rid myself of some of these bothersome points.

I tend to play DOOM, Puzzle Fighter, 1942 and Pinball FX the most lately. Outside of Braid of course which just took up my whole Wednesday and part of my Thursday on Speed Runs.

^ Live Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1 is a sweet collection for the price, and Amazon.com is usually selling it for under $10. Which is what Wik: Fable of Souls alone would cost if you were to download it from Live. Just throwing that out there for any interested parties.

I payed 1.99 with 4.99 shipping for a new copy that was opened just to take the 1 month of Gold subscrition card out. $7 isn't bad for six XBLA games. Also Gamestop sells it used for $10.

Nicely done...I got about as many games as well. The only game I ever purchased that I thought was a waste is Super C. I thought it was the NES version but instead i got the crappy arcade port.

How is Contra though? I was thinking of shelling out for a few more older arcade ports. I was also thinking of Smash TV.

@Onyxmeth

I found smash TV hard to play compared to recent dual analog stick shooters. If you have sentimental value to those games I suspect you'd like them much. I got Streets of rage 2 for that reason...used to LOVE that game.

Omega 5 was cool...space shooter with kickass graphics.

All those among us who have great taste.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick
