Forums - Microsoft - Braid is the best game on Xbox 360.

Since no one else seems to want to discuss this game, I'll start:

"Braid is the best game on Xbox 360"

Braid Review for those curious about this game (Best game on xbla)

Not only do some other people want to discuss this game, they have already done so under an almost identically-named thread.  And also in the stickied XBLA thread.  And in the latest XBLA sales thread.

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

We have a real culture of thrift. The goal that I had in bringing a lot of the packaged goods folks into Activision about 10 years ago was to take all the fun out of making video games. - Activision CEO Bobby Kotick

The game has tons and tons of symbolism.

SOTN is not an original title.

However it does exist, and is in fact "on" XBLA. A step further, it has enhanced graphics and leaderboards built to function with the service.

Braid does have a ton of symbolism. However, to assert that ANY game is "obviously" or "way" better than SotN, is folly imo, and it is likely the result of an opinion created by a person who has never played said game, and possibly generalized it as "Just a Castlevania game."

I'm with sieanr on this one. It's not that Symphony of the Night isn't the best damn title on Xbox Live, hell it's better than any 360 game in existence. But it's a port and therefore doesn't really register in my mind when I think these best games up. The best title on the Wii is most definitely either Gunstar Heroes or Super Mario World, but I wouldn't count them if asked. It's just preference. Everyone knows SOTN is godly though. Then again, Braid is quickly joining the SOTN camp of "never aging gameplay".

@Dolla-You and me buddy, all day all night Castle Crashers. We'll be an unstoppable team.

I'll accept that explaination. Good post. I do, however, think that for a game to reach that SotN ballpark, it needs to stand the test of time. We won't know that for a while. Otherwise, again, good post. I understand that method of thinking.

Braid will stand the test of time. I know it. Storytelling in Braid is so far beyond what i've seen in 99.9% of games and had a spectacular surprise ending that made my jaw drop for every second I kept my finger on the X button. The gameplay is perfect. In my mind it is without flaws. Every puzzle must be worked out basically through no trial and error, and World 4 really cemented how difficult it must have been to design this game in the first place. The visuals are great watercolored painting-like and the music is some of the best i've ever listened to in a game, always capturing the right mood. I just can't see this game aging...at all.

Same here. That final level may be the single most amazing thing I've seen in gaming.

wow you guys are really making me want to play this. Only have a wii though, how unfortunate.

^ It's coming to PC later this year. No excuses, then!

Moderator endorsed thread. X360 owners buy Braid on XBox Live now. 1200 points is cheap. All we need now is mrstickball's golden endorsement on this thread.

You know, it can be considered an official Braid thread if you want, mate. You interpretate it the way you want.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...

Watch my insane gameplay videos on my YouTube page!

Hmm, this wasn't even on my radar......

til now. I'll try the demo.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I just tried the demo and I have to say it was one of the freshest games I've played in years. Its actually relaxing to play, the music is beautiful, the time mechanic is simple and effective and it looks like a beautiful painting.

Its a definite purchase for me.

I'm all for everyone buying Braid, but be warned the time mechanic is not as simple throughout the rest of the game.

You may get frustrated by certain parts, possibly for hours.
