Forums - General - Do you believe in god?

I believe in a God, but I think that this creature is something beyond our ability to comprehend. I don't really believe in the Bible either. The concept of Heaven and Hell are lost on me. I still do my best to be a good person. Hell, most of the time I am an outstanding person!

It saddens me because there are many people whom I loved that are no longer with us. Even though I feel I will never see them again, I take comfort in believing that they are still apart of some never ending life cycle. I am about five seconds from saying I believe in the "Lifestream" from Final Fantasy VII!

I am a christian and proud of it.

This however does not mean i am a bigot or a blind fool like many atheists believe their christian brothers are. That is, unless your meaning of bigot is to shun all evil in life and accept only the good (Which sometimes means to judge if something is wrong for your life or not), and if your meaning of a blind fool is one who sees a universe of infinite complexity and can't only conceptualize an omnipotent being as the one that could create something that vast and perfect.

Yes (surprise!)

Burdens of proof only exist in the courtroom; they do not extend to statements.  When the claim "X is Y" is made, one can't deny that by citing a lack of proof.  There is no logical means to do that; "There's no proof that X=Y, therefore X doesn't equal Y" doesn't make sense, because if such proof did come along, how could you then say X does equal Y?  It can't have been false then true.  You cannot deny or accept anything without proof to do so (if you think you need proof for either one, that is).

On a side note, I've been noticing that my particular theological stances may force me to conclude that everyone does believe on God.  Wierd, huh?

It's easy to convince yourself you're right. It's much harder to step back and realize that you're actually just deluding yourself into thinking you're right by using selective logic to reinforce your beliefs.

Also, belief does not necessitate any parallels to reality. You could deny that pidgeons existed if you wanted, and it wouldn't make them not exist. The short of this is that it doesn't matter what you believe, reality isn't going to change one bit because of it. Your perception of reality might change, but that's not the same thing.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

It's so weird.

I'm friends with so many atheists but I don't ever talk religion to them.

Most atheists I konw want you to prove that God or gods are true yet the only reason that they can give you he's not is because it's not logical.

It's so weird talking to someone who believes that BOOM! one day we all were here.

Don't know why I posted that. :/

"if your meaning of a blind fool is one who sees a universe of infinite complexity and can't only conceptualize an omnipotent being as the one that could create something that vast and perfect."

Where did you get the idea that the universe is perfect? All it is is energy and matter slowly descending into maximum entropy and minimum enthalpy while obeying certain laws. The only reason it seems so perfect to us is because it is all that we know.

And anybody who claims that it is impossible for a god to exist is either a genius who is about to win a nobel prize for it or a fool. A god however is by definition infinitely complex and there has been no problem so far which has required such a complex solution and as such a god is not probable. A person can claim the world was created by a piece of spaghetti and it is impossible to prove otherwise.

If you read through this thread you'll realize that these threads never end well. Too many people enjoy trying to force their beliefs, and atheism is a belief system as well, on others.

My answer from the 4th page.

That is the thread i made before my account was banned! some people really got into it.

@Rath
When i see a universe governed by laws that if any one was off by only a minuscule amount that matter could not have formed properly, when i see a world capable of maintaining life in a universe very harsh to life, when i see all of this develop from a mere quantum singularity, yes i am in awe of a perfect universe.

Yes there will be an end to it when all matter been fused within stars making life impossible, but there were many theologians saying the universe would end long before scientists confirmed it.

That's because the onus isn't on the non believing party to disprove. It's called the burden of proof. If you're claiming something exists, the burden is on you to supply evidence. Otherwise, anyone could claim anything to be true.

If you tell me there is an all powerful creator being that brought us in to existence, controls our lives and continues our existence after we die, I see no reason to believe such a claim until you can also provide a reason to. Most Atheists just haven't been supplied with a very good reason to believe such a claim.
